I played it for a few weeks, didn't really accomplish anything but I had a great time wandering around killing stuff and learning how to play the game.
There you go. Until you get a strong enough team to be offered serious missions, the point seems to be to wander about. That aimlessness at the beginning is both a plus and a minus. The plus is to just have fun finding out what is where and about prices, specials, and such. The minus is you feel lost and a bit pointless. Also, some encounters are completely overwhelming for a poorly armed, poorly armored team.

The primitive graphics really restrict replayability. Still the thought that went into the setting, the "monsters," the characters, and the plot make it better than any RPG i know of since the death of the wizardry series. The Elder Scrolls stuff from Bethesda was interesting, but wasn't really an RPG due to the principle character nature of those games. Darklands needs a real mix of characters to work well.
