This is a thread for Asher and I, probably, but if anyone else enjoys the NHL games, join in!

I picked up NHL 09 yesterday. Having a blast coming up as a defenseman in the Be A Pro mode. I joined a team last night as well and played a few games. Americans are terrible at this game when they are locked into a player, i've discovered. They play like 5 year olds, all chasing after the puck and never playing position.

Did you pick one up yet Dave?

Yes, haven't played much yet though.

I love the NHL 94 control mode...

I loved the Be A Pro equivalent in Madden a few years ago. Had a linebacker that was quite fun to play... but yes, a lot of people have a hard time not being in the center of the action while playing this style. I didn't mind, myself, because I had just as much fun dropping back and defending passes as blitzing ...

I tried it, and i quickly got destroyed. I'm back to the default controls now.

If I picked this up, I would probably consider NHL 94 controls the default controls... I haven't played much NHL since like NHL 1996 or something, and I think those were the same controls as 94.

The default skillstick controls are the way to go online or against any real CPU.

The NHL 94 is for play against buddies. It's mostly nostalgia I think...

I think Be a Pro fits in perfectly with NHL, much much more so than with Madden. You can pretty much always involve yourself in the play, so you aren't limited to whatever play your coach has chosen. Much more interesting

RW. I hate faceoffs in NHL games.

And it's fantastic that every time I boot up the game there's an awesome image of Phaneuf shooting.

I like the Kovalev image that cycles in.

I don't know why you'd hate faceoffs other than then getting too easy over time. I'm loving playing D. Set up the powerplay, join the rush when I want, lay on some big hits. It's got it all!

Might get this - EA seem to have done a good job with most of the sports titles this year.

I still don't see the allure for euros who don't know hockey to play hockey games?

Well if it's a good game you don't necessarily have to be a hockey fan.

Part of their innate goodness comes from the familiarity and childhood of the fans of the sport though. If you've played hockey or watch a lot of hockey, I think it makes the game more enjoyable.

The demo's always there, I suppose.
