I'm not interested in writing a whole long thing (cuz I wanna play spore, heh), but I think a lot of the reaction to this boils down to the fact that some gamers (hardcore ones, I'd fathom) kinda pushed away the idea that Spore was a Maxis / Will Wright game. And it comes out, and it's not as deep or complex as they assumed, and reality set in.
