Grandpa, what N35tOr said: It´s not like you learn any single game when you play a title from paradox, but rather you learn how to play paradox (games). They are all quite alike and are certainly worth the effort learning them. Unlike the name suggests, they are not paradox at all, and i´d say, that the more of a picture you have about the era covered by the game at hand, the easier the game can be understood. So i´d suggest, that for learning how to play paradox, you´d first pick up the current title of theirs, which covers the era you are interested the most, and know most about. After that, it´s pretty easy to switch to any other title of theirs for a change.

They are indeed quite alike in playing style. But EU3 is probably the easiest to pick up of their games, as PI worked hard to make the game more intuitive when they developed it.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10

Doubt it, though I've never heard of the game. PI games is unique. They invented the genre.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10

The paradox games that are closest are Hearts of Iron 1 and 2. However they are not turnabased, but pausable realtime, though I think this makes less difference then some think. The geographical units are provinces, not hexes, which DOES make a difference. In many other respects there are likely some similarities. However the games like EU that cover multiple centuries play out rather differently than a game like HOI, as the combat system becomes more abstract, and the other aspects become more detailed."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

Gramps, if you like the time of pre-imperial Rome, you should check out Europa Universalis: Rome. Currently, I wouldn't recommend it, it's unpolished. But it is in the process or getting an XP. I would recommend you to check it out when it comes.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
