Settlers?

I turn 49 in a couple days, saw this game at Best Buy and was wondering if anyone has anything to say good or bad about it?

Settlers of Cataan is a great game. (It's a board game, or IIRC there is a MSN game and an X-360 game designed by Brian Reynolds.)

Settlers I've never played, some people like it quite a bit from what I recall. Which Settlers did you see? (IIRC there are several versions...)

Snoopy, I saw the words Settler or Settlers on a box, I plan on going back by, not sure if its got a second name though, but was a PC Game..not sure if it was CD or DVD either

Well there is the German game series "Settlers - Die Siedler", which should be what you´ve seen. It´s a building strategy game with little cutie dudes. Was quite popular in the late nineties, but the most recent versions were kind of disappointing. I´d recommend NOT buying Settlers 5, while anything that goes with "Settlers 2" will be great (They have done a remake of the original Settlers 2, but I´m not sure what it´s called).

Five was pretty weak. I haven't played any of the others, but I've heard good things about them.

The board game is excellent.

Settlers II is my favourite.

The remake is called "Settlers 2: The Next Generation". I have it, and despite that I loved Settlers 2 ten years ago, the remake was a disappointment. It provides exactly that: Settlers 2 with all its game rules, just prettier. But the gaming industry has developed since then, games have become much more complex. I have fond memories of Settlers 2, but from a new game I expect a lot more depth than a ten years old S2 can provide.

The fact that the Germans made Settlers 2 and it wasn't until much later that I learned that all Germans are nazis. I can no longer enjoy such nazi propaganda.

Settlers 1 and 2 were great, and if you don't mind playing older games the remake of 2 would serve you well.

I been playing a round robin of Call To Power, Ages of Empire II The Conquerors, CIVIII Conquests and CIVIV BTS

Just looking to see what else is out there.

I lose the use of my left hand in about 4.5 weeks when it gets fused.

I never tried 1, but 2 was lots of fun. 3 was a different type of game to 2, but still fun for me. 4 and 5 went too far in the wrong direction for my tastes.

, there is not that much out there , or you would have to go to war simulations , then you will get maybe something nice for you , ...

Look for the 'Settlers II - Gold Edition', it's arguably the best in the series( it includes the expansions disk missions etc).

Looking at the list of games you like playing(CTP2 etc), then like me you wont mind the games dated graphics(as some might call them).

After Settlers II the series got a bit too tied up in glossing up the graphics by making it look very cartoony, I found this lost much of the series charm to me.
Still I defy anyone not to be moved when they see one of their 'hunters' shoot the little cute rabbit sprites that hop around in Settlers II, they were cute enough!

I still play it from time to time - and still haven't finished it. And good luck with the hand fusion thing.........sounds painful!
