  • There are two Steve Jacksons?

There are two Steve Jacksons! (In the hobby game design industry, that is.)

My friend just told me! Weird. Apparently they are not the same person. One founded the "Fighting Fantasy" adventure books with Ian Livingstone in the UK, and the other is the brain behind GURPS and works out of the US.

The first book I ever bought for my kid brother was "Seas of Blood" by the UK Steve Jackson, and my bro didn't get how to play it. (He was only 5 though.) Then I looked at it more closely and thought it was pretty cool. It was my first step into RPGs!

Now my friend is waxing "eloquent" about how DnD sucks and he's going to run a game in GURPS instead. For a moment I thought he was going to do a FF game...

The UK Steve Jackson also founded Games Workshop who basically brought Dungeons and Dragons to the UK.

And just to confuse things apparently the US Steve Jackson also contributed to the fighting fantasy series.

I've never really been into card games like that - there are lots I haven't played.

Cool, I thought the Munchkin SJ was the adventure book SJ. Yet more useless knowledge I have.

USA Steve Jackson makes many games, including role playing games, card games, and other fun stuff. You should look him up

The card game is practically a RPG anyway. A mocking RPG

maybe they could fight each other and that would solve the confussion - I would happily acknowledge the winner as the REAL Steve Jackson.

FF was a great series of books(but there were other better attempts at the genre a little later as it caught on IIRC)

Wow, if the US-SJ did indeed develop Munchkin, he definately is the better SJ! That card game was such fun!!! I want my mightily magnificent hat (or whatever it´s called in the English version)!

Which you can play as a Mod(along with two other of the early FF game books) in Morrowind

They were good those FF books, and a few of the others they spawned(notably that ninja series "way of the tiger" i think?).

So on balance it would probably be a draw in the trans atlantic battle for the title of Ultimate Steve Jackson, based on their works alone............or they could brawl drunkenly.............how much would it cost to arrrange that? hmm maybe it could be put on utube and get funding from advert banners etc?

and brought us Warhammer and White Dwarf (although I lost interest once it became a Warhammer mag.)

Never even heard of Munchkin so it can't count
