So I'm seeing Metroid 3 and Super Mario Galaxy as the games to get.

What's the best soccer game for the Wii?
Pro Evo got decent reviews that suggested it used the wii-mote very well. Mario Strikers got ok reviews as well but I'd see that as second choice.

I'm hoping the new Tennis sim is halfway decent... Tennis is our favorite of the WiiSports but it has some significant flaws (not having 1v1 mode primary among them).

      Also, I can't hit a backhand worth ****.

edit: I'm talking about Top Spin 3, which I haven't found a review of yet, but the one late preview (6/1/08 IGN) was ... interesting. It suggested some quirks about control I'm not sure I like, and it seems like it's a bit too 'realistic' for what i'd like in a 'fun' tennis sim (ie, to play with a friend who's not a serious gamer). We will see. Perhaps this is why people rent games...hmm.

I might get that too if it gets good reviews - on 360 though.

WTF would you play a Tennis game on the 360

Perhaps he's attracted to the concept of physics and online play.

Wii Tennis was brutal. You had a very finite (3 or 4) actual animations you triggered with about 60% accuracy by waving the wiimote. Perhaps it's fine if you're hosting a mentally retarded child's birthday party, but I don't see how anyone with any concept of what a good game is could be entertained by that. I don't even think it was a game, at least no more than the Tiger Electronics handheld Tennis game.

Compared to what? If you mean the Wii like Asher I found Wii tennis very basic, though it was fun after a few beers with friends last Christmas.

Wii Tennis is basic. That's why it's fun... I don't imagine a non-basic tennis game would be very fun. It's a party game, and a quite successful one.

                I want a game where I can:

                1. Swing my controller like a tennis racket and have the player on the screen imitate me.

                2. Smash, slice, and backhand.

                3. Play two player.

                4. Otherwise have basically simple gameplay where I can play with my GF and my friends short pickup games when we're bored and want to interact in a braindead manner.

Wii Tennis does 1 and 4. 2 and 3 are a bit iffy, hence my hope for an improvement in this series

I wouldn't ever want to play a normal controller tennis game... it would be boring after a short amount of time. The failures on matching your actions perfectly are quite reasonable, and make the game more fun IMO - after all, how often do you exactly correctly hit the tennis ball in RL? It's quite fun watching your character miss the ball badly and cursing at it jovially.

All of which explains why you like the Wii game. It doesn't explain your confusion that others might have different preferences. It's almost as if you are turning into Asher.

Gawd no not Asher. Boy he was a right josser and also a quobbit. In addition to being a fitbin also.

He was truly a disgrace to straight Americans (if he was a straight American). I hope he never returns and also that he's not lurking around somewhere in a cuddly yet disquieting form listening to my inner (vaginal?) monologue.

I'll forgive the suggestion only because it led to such a choice post from Alinestra.

You forget that I know when i'm making an outrageous statement for effect, it's not accurate

The thing is, snoopy, I am both outrageous and accurate.

But one of two ain't bad.

It should come as no surprise, but the Wii isn't really capable of handling Rock Band and the Wii version is by far the worst of the bunch: http://wii.ign.com/articles/883/883962p1.html

Yet the guitar is the best peripheral.

I have a Wii now. I'm on my way to get Rock Band.
