Great - let me know when the vote takes place to kill the spore forum. I'll make sure all my DLs friends show up. Honestly, I didn't even read that thread because I thought it was about "Archiving" old stuff, not killing the forum. Whatever, like I've said before, I'll vote with my wallet when the time comes to renew. You guys are going in the wrong direction.

Back on topic, my wife brought the game home for me from Best Buy, and the CD was snapped in two.

I was reading that one neat feature is that when you load up a save game, you can actually choose to play as a different civ than the one you originally started as. Pretty cool idea, IMO.

That's actually a feature of most (or maybe all???) Paradox games.

It's a feature in all PI games.

It realy should be a feature in civ5

Anyone care to give a EU newbie some hints?

To learn the game, i wanted to start with a relatively small, out of the way faction. Initially i want to micromanage a lot, just to get an idea of how everything works, but not for 5+ provinces at once.

So i started with Lusitani, 2 provicnes, no neighbouring factions, but that was too primitive to anything with. Too low civ to colonize with and all the civilized factions hate me.

Second choice was Masillia, which was a much better starting point, but there's that pesky tribute to Rome and all the surrounding provinces are of a different culture. But at least i can colonize now so i'm gonna stick with this for a while.

Now, a specific question i have is, how do i load troops on ships? I have this single trireme that i start with and my two provinces are not adjacent...safest and fastest way to transport troops is by water, but i cant figure out how to get my troops on the trireme.

Macedonia is said to be a good country to learn the game.

As for loading units on ships: It's really as straight forward as it can get. You place your ships in the water next to the troops, mark the troops and right click them into the ships as if you were to move to another province.

Ah, so easy...i had my ship in the harbor, not out in the water...that's why i couldn't load them

The civil war tech issue really needs to get fixed. Everyone is around 2-3 tech, and a civil war spawns a faction with all 10s. How does something like that get missed in any sort of reasonable testing?

after this many versions of EU, they STILL haven't changed that? Really, its kind of silly.

Meh. I've been continually unimpressed with Paradox lately. The grand strategy of their games is to not waste money on meaningless wars like the AI does then gain a research led and go on a rampage. Playing wack an army isn't very fun.

I cant speak to EU3 or EU Rome. Im currently playing CK and focusing on building a research lead wont work too well there. If, like me your Poland, you need to be big enough by the time the Mongols come.

ISTR that in EU2 it depended on precisely what your situation was. A german state threatened by the big white blob cant wait too long to expand either.

I downloaded a full copy of this the day after it came out. It's fun so far but definately needs work especially since all four of the events in the game are currently screwed up and the micromanagement is killing me. I mean replacing a half dozen governors every week sucks as does the fact that the moment your bab boy score goes over the thresh hold EVERY single nation in the game bombards you assassins EVERY single week.

Me: "Wow, this week they only assassinated 19 of my characters instead of the normal 20. Someone must have run out of money for assassins."
