Suggest me games

It has to be 10 years old at most and 1 year old at least (so I can be sure it's fully patched). The graphics have to be pretty, even if they're dated. (Duke Nukem 3D and Colonization still are pretty in my eyes, for instance)

It broadly has to be broadly action-oriented. I doesn't need to be a killing-fest, but at least some adrenaline had to be pumped.

It has to have a good dose of immersion and atmosphere, with interesting and believable environments.

It's about single player for me. If the game has got good multiplayer as well, so much the better, but it's not the reason I'm getting it.

Thus:

No CoD4, Crysis or Orange Box. I'll be getting those at some point in the future, but I want to play older games first. (I already have the predecessors in those series)

I'm boycotting BioShock.

What's the best space sim since the Wing Commander series?

Tie Fighter, or X Wing vs Tie Fighter, probably, if you mean space-flying sim. It's the best, period. Around ten years old though, maybe a few less (1999-2001 era I think).

Tie Fighter runs in dos, true, but it's less than 10 years old, and quite playable still XWvTF and XWA play on Windows fine, if that's your concern (but TF plays on Dosbox with no problem). Play the game once or twice before you decide it's ****

Wow, where did that one pop out from? I'm quite sure I've never read that name anywhere but apparently it's one of the most highly rated games of '01. Anyhow, interesting suggestion, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Deus Ex, Beyond Good & Evil are other games I'm considering, as well as Max Payne 1&2 and Doom 3. It's surprisingly hard to find these games in boxes anymore though. I figured all developers are happy to re-release their hits ad infinitum.
