  • Lost Odyssey

Another seemingly strong RPG is coming out, to go alongside Mass Effect. Early reviews are looking favourable.

This is the right place where you can find useful information about current attractive offers and promotions about casinos in the UK. We regularly update our

Although the game world is in a state of upheaval, Lost Odyssey cleverly makes Kaim's own existence the central theme of the game -what happens in the world is important, but nothing as crucial as discovering more about Kaim, his thousand-year past, and his apparently endless future."

"Kaim is quite a cold character too, and he doesn't seem impressed with those around him; he seems like an outsider, and that makes the player feel like an outsider. It's a clever trick, setting Lost Odyssey apart from 'funkier' Japanese RPGs. This one is primarily for older players."

On Thousand Years of Dreams > "Sometimes the text of these dreams is spliced with moving images of Kaim's past actions. It all works to great effect, and it makes for a much more interesting non-playable hook than the half-assed cut-scenes of lesser games... Lost Odyssey is the 360's most interesting application of non-game-related source material to date."

"The four dics each hold around ten hours' worth of play, and many minutes of voiced dialogue and cut-scenes, so Lost Odyssey can be regarded as an epic. And there's also the surreptitious delivery of 'A Thousand Years of Dreams', which can be viewed as a digital book in it's own right. In terms of play for pound (or dollars if you're American), Lost Odyssey is more generous than most."

Summary > "Definitely a story well told and a reasonably well produced RPG, Lost Odyssey is rooted in the genre's traditions but ultimately succeeds thanks to the strength of it's fantastic storytelling. Battles are satisfyingly difficult and there's four discs' worth of game to play through. It can be a bit heavy, a bit like 'War and Peace', but Lost Odyssey is well worth a look if you're after a Japanese RPG with staying power."

Final Score Given: 4 stars out of 5

    Cautiously optimistic about this one.

Hmmm, still a Japanese style (which I do not care for much), but thanks for the heads up Doc.

    I especially like this part:

This one is primarily for older players.
Maybe I need to get an XBOX 360 magazine, now that i have one to stay up on all the shizzle???
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

I just use forums - I found that info on one called TeamXbox, which is probably the most civil, and pretty active.

The official Xbox forums are worth a laugh and have a staggering amount of posters, but some are.......less than pleasant.

I am definitely going to get this...eventually. too much of a backlog right now to justify a full purchase price, and a few games I need to purchase after my backlog before this one.

Looks really good, high production values.

        Mistwalker
I like blue dragon, the demo was terrible, but the actual game is quite nice.
        Sheena Easton

        my concerns:
4 dvds-20hrs gameplay, 20 hrs video (do not like that much movie watching)
load times/enemy battles apparently take way way too long.

the 360 is getting two other really interesting looking (to me, of course) rpgs later this year and next depending on the japanese translation - too human and infinite undiscovery.

Yes, who was it said the only good games on the Xbox were shooters?

Uh, they are, sans Guitar Hero/Rock Band and Assassin's Creed.

Mass Effect and Forza 2 to name just two others.

Do you think I could have forgotten Mass Effect? it's a third-person shooter (that is also an RPG). And racing games don't count

It's predominantly an RPG. And whether or not you like racing games Forza is very highly rated, at metacritic and so on.

                      So nil point, I'm afraid.

It's too bad consoles are focused on sports, shooting, and racing and have no real thinking games.

Hmm, depending on what you mean by thinking game, I'd say no system was overly blessed.

Of recent 360 games I've played I guess I'd class Portal as one though.

Like what? Civ requires no thinking. They even got Blake do the do the AI.

A full set of reviews are in now, and looking pretty solid, but not great. For a niche game like this though you can add 0.5 to a full point if you are a fan of the genre. Feedback from the players that have it so far is strong, and the retail version doesn't seem as affected by the framerate and loading issues that many reviews picked up.

I think I'll get this when it hits £25.
