  • I Wish They Showed More Imagination When Naming Games

This is just a recent example:

    Commander: Europe at War
    Supreme Commander

Both are recent strategy games so it is easy to get confused. Any other examples you can think of?

Are gaming companies supposed to get together before every game to make sure the names of their games don't have any common words?
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

nah, but they hardly need to do that to realize that mashing together "empire" "World" "arms" "conflict" "imperial" "war" "galaxy" etc in various combinations gets kinda generic.

Compare, say "Sins of a Solar Empire" (well its got empire, but its still pretty distinctive) Or even "Victoria" (very different, despite the subtitle) Or Spore.

Took me a while to realize that Warcraft and World of Warcraft were different games.

I also thought for the longest time that the Sims was part of the Simcity series of games (and maybe it is, but from what I have read it sure seems different then the Simcity that I remember).

Also confusing for me was Halo: Wars (the upcoming halo RTS), as opposed to Halo: Combat Evolved (the original halo game).
