You and Spike are ignoring the point. Gamespot gives negative reviews, and many of its reviews are in line with other major sites.

This in no way disproves the common sense notion that Gamespot is influenced by ad money.

      Huh? Prove this?

They make a significant amount of money from them because the site is ****ing peppered with game ads. I'd imagine you wouldn't know this since you have ****ing Adblock on normally.

You really think youre going to learn more about games here in OG than in the forums on sites devoted to all kinds of gaming (as opposed to Civ)? You've pointed out a site you post to (Beyond3d, I think it was), that has many developers, etc. What would you expect to find here?

As you know, I'd already checked. You chastised me on that, too. Make up your mind.
They pulled some kayne and lynch ads for obvious reasons.

Check yourself. Upwards of 80% are non-game ads when I look.

                  Amazing.

Yep, games aren't a big part of ad revenue at all.

I don't learn much in this particular subforum, this falls into the category of me contributing what I do know about.

That said, I learn about other games I haven't played yet.

You said they don't make money without game publishers buying ads. This is false. Patently so.

Yes, you can buy featured ads. Right now I've got a similar full-page ad for Mountain Dew. which game do they make?

                        ?
Right, game publishers are not their only advertiser. I never claimed they were. Use those reading skills you rail on about

Game publishers pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into them. Fact..

You said exactly that, then you edited it out:
Gamespot doesn't make ad money unless it makes publishers happy. True or false.

                          This is a universal qualifier.

You're bickering over semantics. I've clearly shown they make a lot of money from the game makers they review. Not ALL of their money, fine. Whatever. It doesn't affect the argument.

Seeing as most of the ads aren't games, and given Gamespot's long record of being harsher than their peers on reviews also doesn't support your argument.

As I said, it's possible, but it's not proven or even the most likely explanation IMO.

Combined with recent suspicious reviews like GameSpot's Assassin's Creed review (where it looked like they didn't play the game the full way through, hence saying the PS3 version didn't have framerate problems which only occur near the end), I don't think it's unlikely that they made an example out of him.
I read his review and also watched the video.

I played Kane & Lynch, he took the words right out of my mouth, his review was spot on.
