  • The Sims

To keep from spamming the other thread, this is for a general discussion on the The Sims, with a principle FOCUS on my current installation and running of it.

Minor annoyance - it calls for the owner code from the back of the CD case, but for the deluxe edition you need to use the code on the back of the manual.

The manual looks good, and Im not used to paper manuals lately, so I appreciate it.

You want a thread to focus on installing a seven year old dollhouse?

we'll move on to the gameplay as well.

Seven years old? Whatever, we've discussed much older interactive entertainments here.

Im not sure what the point of disparaging a "dollhouse" is. What happens in a dollhouse - young people explore narrative, character, etc. The essential background of so many games.

I don't think you will get many replies on the installation of the Sims. Considering the target demographic of the game, this process is as simple as they can make it.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

At the risk of some Sims-wrath........I have been looking at getting the original game myself. I don't want the PC version though, as it's for my partner and she likes to play on her consoles while I do PC stuff. So my question would be do I go for the GameCube or Xbox version(non-360 one)?
Mostly I would pick the xbox version over GC in this situation, but I haven't read anything in reviews that makes it seem one is better than the other, so what would people recomend?

If i was to play this kind of game on PC, I might look at trying to emulate the original:

Little Computer People can be described as the "mother" of The Sims. When you load the game for the first time and personalise it with your name you'll see a house with several rooms like a kitchen, living room, bed room, etc. After some time of...

As a concept that game did interest me, although I never did get around to playing it.

Oy, I didnt mean this had to be about technical aspects of the install, just trying to get a focus on my current playing of the game. Since I havent actually started playing, I mentioned install.

I will go back and play through the tutorial (?) and then come back with some more focused questions.

hey, this is cool so far.

This fellow Bob seemed to need more comfort, so I bought them a couch. However I seem to have placed it to close to the bed. Bob got on the couch, and then was unable to leave, even when his other needs became urgent. I couldnt move the couch, cause Bob was on it. He spent over 24 hours on the couch, and the sad clown showed up, before I quit.

this is cool ... [I encountered a stupid bug caused by the simplistic model the game uses]

There's no narrative or character in the Sims. Yes, you can imagine they have all sorts of entertaining stories, but I fail to see why you don't just open up MS Word and start writing about it.

Does having to send your fictional people to the pooper, to the car pool, and to bed and to the TV ad nauseam really add any amount of creative freedom? Of course not, it restricts it and then kicks it in the balls.

I have the original sims and Sims2 but no XP's. It's kind of fun to play around with, but there just isn't much of a "game" here. Once you get the timing down, it's pretty easy.

Just get a routine down, and you'll be okay. Kind of like in real life

You could probably just move the bed rather than the couch. Normally the game forces you to leave enough space around objects for the sims to at least escape from their current predicament.

sims is alright. dont take the game too seriously. ur gonna have problem with it if u do.

back in college, i recreated my college dorm room and frat house i knew and let the characters run wild. its fun for awhile to watch friends piss on themselves, drown in the pool and etc.
                              :-p
