Three flagship games getting outsold significantly, and a glorified remote control (you honestly don't think everyone really wants Wii Play?)

Madden for the 360 alone significantly outsold all of the other Wii titles in your list combined.

Can you imagine how awful this month's sales will look for the Wii?

The simple fact is, the 360 is vastly superior to the Wii in some aspects, and the Wii is vastly superior to the 360 in other aspects.

If one of your needs isn't being met, you can get the other one, their strengths compliment each other nicely, in most regards.

      What's the big deal?

Money is to be made and lost in the sector. It's interesting to see the different strategies: Sell lots of hardware at a huge overprice for profits then stop caring about thirdparty software sales, or sell hardware close to cost and make a fortune on game sales (third and first party)?

Why should nintendo care about how well 3rd parties do when they publish garbage like Anubis?

I'm not sure why I, as a Wii owner should purchase garbage just because its a 3rd party game. I know 360 owners do that with things like Tenchu Z and Two Worlds.

There's money to be made by 3rd parties, re4:wii has sold vastly more than Capcom expected, for example. Trauma center I believe is Atlus' top seller (I could be remembering that wrong) Tiger Woods 07 did very well on the Wii (08 did not, either due to lackluster effort or coming out only a few months after the previous, unlike the other consoles' releases). Rayman and Red Steel both sold a million (yes, they were launch titles, but the 360 has some of those as well) Sonic outsold its 360 counterpart.

I imagine the next big 3rd party wii game will be the S&M Olympics , I think I read that Sega predicted 4 million sold (: lol: )

5 3rd party games that I am highly interested in with expected early-mid 2008 releases:
          No More Heroes
          King Story
          Opoona
          Dragon Quest Swords
          Oboro Muramasa Youtouden

I can think of 2 3rd party 360 games that I'm interested in in 2008 thus far:
          GTAIV
          Alan Wake

Lost Oddysey is rumored to "feature" 20 hrs of cutscenes, which kills it for me.

What else 3rd party should I be looking to, for the first half of 2008?

            And BioShock.

The question is, why are Wii 3rd party games garbage? RE4 is an exception -- it is a port from the generation when Capcom made an effort to revive the Gamecube (and then gave up and ported it to PS2).

Tiger Woods 07 did very well on the Wii (08 did not, either due to lackluster effort or coming out only a few months after the previous, unlike the other consoles' releases). Perhaps the reason Tiger Woods 07 did better than 08 is peole learned their lesson? Golf with the wiimote sounds great -- til you use it. Lesson also learned with other launch titles -- Red Steel probably didn't do MP3 any favours with its control scheme.

What else 3rd party should I be looking to, for the first half of 2008?
Why are you ignoring the fall/winter 07 3rd party games? Eg, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Orange Box, Naruto: Rise of a Ninja, Simpsons Game, Timeshift, Virtua Fighter 5, Army of Two, Assassin's Creed, and Need for Speed ProStreet?

For the first half of 08:
            Devil May Cry 4
            The Club
            Fallout 3
            Splinter Cell: Conviction
            World in Conflict
            Civilization: Revolution
            GTA4
            Alan Wake
            Ninja Gaiden 2

All look interesting to me. Those are all 3rd party games for the 360.

              Never really understood Wii people.

Wat ze **** can you do with it? Oh yea you can do some ubercool thing like teh bowling and make a silly gesture while doing so.

I could simply play some flash game which is equally or even more fun than that :/

PS: Bioshock is a ****in PC game! Consoles don't do justice to its glory!

I agree. Lack of effort, esp when compared to what Nintendo themselves are putting out. Why should I support garbage 3rd party efforts?

I wasn't ignoring it, I know what's coming out now, it's the next season I'm unsure of, hence my phrasing.

                thanks for the list
Well, several of those I'd rather get on the PC (world in conflict, fallout 3), Civ rev is multi plat, and I'd rather play the real deal in IV. I think I'd rather take my 5 over 5 of those, though, maybe I'm starved for good wii games

Again, you say that 3rd party sales suck on the wii, what 3rd party game on the wii do you think was worthy of decent sales that it didn't receive? The only flop of a good game (Imho of course) was blur, which I, frankly, love.

You criticize 3rd party sales on the Wii while also criticizing their quality, don't you think the two might go hand in hand? Nintendo's offerings have fared quite well both critically and sales wise-Zelda, WarioWare, Super Paper Mario, even Metroid will do on par with other metroids (look at the franchise thread, 13 million in sales over what, 9-10 games?)

So theyre outsold, by the sport games that the mainstream consoles live for, and by the Bioshock phenom. Sales suck, but relative to what? Relative to 360 sales, which have to make up (so far) for MS losses and hardware, and on the previous gen? Or suck compared to what Nintendo expected? Or what Nintendo needs to keep moving along?

How is it a huge overprice if the HW is selling out? The customers like it. You some kind of socialist? You might as well say that 360/PS3 software is overpriced compared to Wii or PC software, but that would be silly, its selling well.

Honestly Asher, is Nintendo selling more, less or the same amount of SW and HW that you expected before the Wii launched? Are they exceeding expectations? Is 360? Is PS3?

I consider the Wii to be overpriced because as a technologist and as gamer, what you get is probably worth all of $70 at most. I understand in terms of economics, it's clearly not overpriced and that's good for them -- but it irks me when people package horse**** as gold and make a killing off of it.

And no, 360/PS3 software is not overpriced -- you can't make that argument in any terms. The vast majority of games still lose money on huge development budgets vs sales.

PS, LOTM, this thread isn't actually about that game -- but the phenomenon as Wii being the platform of choice for **** games.

I think you clearly are. I haven't heard of the other 4 games at all. Maybe if you took the effort to actually look at the 360 release list coming up you'd find similarly obscure titles (in NA standards) that you would enjoy. I think we have very different tastes in games if you want any of the last 4 games.

Again, you say that 3rd party sales suck on the wii, what 3rd party game on the wii do you think was worthy of decent sales that it didn't receive? The only flop of a good game (Imho of course) was blur, which I, frankly, love.
None of them deserve good sales, but a lot of 3rd party games on the 360 don't deserve them either. Then again, I really don't think most of the Wii's games deserved good sales (like Wii Play), but that **** still happens.

I completely agree. Nintendo screws over third parties with poor, development tools, with high royalty rates (which eats into development budgets), and an underpowered console. Further still, they don't even give proper credit to development houses by not letting them put their name on the spine of the game box (it has to be on the back only).

The question you need to ask, and have been led to ask, is why are Wii games so **** unless Nintendo makes them? The answer is this: the Wii demographic ("casual" gamers who don't care about graphics, sound, and frankly, quality), Nintendo's push for Wii development as a discount development platform, and crap development tools.

So first the wii is losing to the 360 and then its making a killing? Which is it?

Now i have not looked this up for myself, but im told MS's console game division has taken major losses and only in recent months managed to get a profit going and has yet to get in the black in terms of lifetime $. True\false?
