so, the only current gen debuts in the top 50 are both Nintendo properties, Nintendogs and the Wii Series. I could have missed something.
Dragon Quest also is a prime candidate to move into the top 10 once IX gets released worldwide, Swords outside Japan, and the remakes of IV-VI on the ds and I hope I-III. I'm really salivating over those.
As for FIFA; my theory is that Americans like to sit down when they are doing something.
The lists are an interesting insight into the minds of people who buy games. I only bought two games (franchise) that are on that list, Half Life 2 and Need for Speed (the very very first one).

Wiki states the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise sold over 45 million units, though it doesn't cite a reference. Can't find numbers for the FIFA franchise, anyone knows them? What about Warcraft?

9 million subscribers for wow. not sure if that includes banned accounts. You have to figure most of those subscribers are gold farmers, but they do count as sales.

What's interesting to me is the increasing irrelevance of Nintendo. Yes, those games on the list have huge sales, but every generation the sales decrease for the sequels -- by contrast, many of those games listed have more success each iteration.

me scratches head, the civ series has not sold 10M copies?
I was wondering that too, since the count includes expansions, surely 4 main games, and several spin offs (ToT, CtP etc) and expansions would do the trick? Maybe with the new civ console games it will be pushed over the edge.

only world of warcraft, never played the rts games.
now I think of it, I think it's considered a separate franchise. Or is it?
oh I played tetris too, but never owned it. only played it a few minutes on my brothers nintendo. Oh, and the sims too. damn I'm missing all kinds of games I played. But I usually don't like to admit to playing the sims.
