  • SC Societies Gameplay Video on Gamespot

I hope this works! Since my computer here at work doesn't support flash I can't view the video before linking it here. If there is a problem I will attempt to fix it when I get to my home computer, but here goes:

    Enjoy!

I didn't listen to what she said, but it sounds like she is trying to spice up Simcity. The graphics look too 5th grade to me though.

WoW, you have really high graphical standards, don't you? Since we all know a game can never be any good without ultra realistic graphics.

I watched the video though. I have to say, anyone who is worried that thay have over simplified SC:S, needn't. This game will have a lot of strategic depth. The video focused on only one energy and the depth of choices are already obvious. It will be very interesting to see how people manage to balance 6 energies at once.

Jesus.... that looks like Sim corporate fascism to me.

You'd think they'd let you build really cool cities, like Brasilia.

But he is right, it looks like it was made for kids who's still not teenagers
SimCity 4 looked so much better

And why make two threads about this?

Look at the interface especially. Ouch. Looks like an elementary school classroom. Anyway, the buildings have a phony look to them. It's just off.

Yeah, that has got to be the ugliest interface I've seen in a long time... scary as hell

Sorry John, but they are right. To me, if the lead designers cannot get the graphics up to par, what's to say what the game will be like?

Hate to be sexist, but if a woman designed a SimCity game, it would look a lot like this.

Just finished watching the video (yeah I was posting half way ). I must admit though, the water, skyscapers, tree's and people walking around are all very nice, better than any of the previous Civ's.

The game does have hopes, but I am skeptical about the seriousness of the game, I prefer Simcity to have a serious attitude. Simcity was never meant to be like Sims.

The video made even more skeptical about the game... did I just hear say something about if you select this building, then press this button, then that place will have a Hawaiian shirt day that makes workers more happy? Or sure hope I misheard her

I'd have more confidence in this game if the interface wasn't terrible and if Tilted Mill didn't have a history of sucking.

OK, I listened to her talking for a while.

Damn. Totally retarded. Everything gives arbitrary percentage boosts. So a corporate whore building would make 3,000$ a day instead of $2,000 -- why? Because you have a tycoon visiting, and its' near a focus lab that improves employee quality by ~20% or some random number. WTF?

And Agathon is right. This is all about corporate management -- there is even a building called Board of Directors and another called Corporate One (WTF?). Whatever happened to building really beautiful cities.

They are emphasizing arbitrary gamey principles of economic management and not actual aesthetic and well-rounded city design.

I'm curious SnOOpy, I have heard people say before that SC:S looks like it will be similar to the Sims. What part of the video, or the game as a whole for that matter, reminds you of this Sims?

I have heard it many times, but no one so far has made a more specific comparison. Will you be the first (that I have heard)?

The Sims is cartoony, and does not take itself seriously. It's also not really a game, it's more of a dollhouse.

SC Societies certainly looks cartoony, and it seems to be less about urban planning than simplified corporation dynamics and placing big, fake looking buildings.
