It's a Jaguar E-Type.

The plated metal appearance is just a paint job. The original comes in plain cherry red.

The games are mostly designed with controllers in mind, and people are used to using them. It's a well recognised fact that most people can make faster lap times with the controller, though the gap comes down with a lot of practice.

All of the top racing wheels come with pedals.

You can even get a gear stick and a racing chair if you are really into these games.
