  • Dear Apolyton

I've created a new web game, called Fire to the Stars, which is in the same genre as Civ and all the rest. It's entirely browser-based, no plugins, using AJAX. Technically it's pretty sound, but I'm looking for beta testers to help make sure the game is fun.

Since you all love Civ & 4x games, I thought this would be the perfect place to find some people who would enjoy beta testing the game with me.

The game is in two parts: planetary and galactic. The goal is a big 100-player game in a galaxy where 10 players start on each of 10 planets and have to play a planetary civ-style game and then it becomes a galactic moo-style game and they find the other cultures scattered around the galaxy.

Anyways, that's just an idea of what you'd be getting into. The planetary game is the half being tested. When it's done I'll launch that and start testing the galactic side.

If anyone's interested, feel free to stop by and sign up - it's free until the beta testing is completed, and it's the opportunity to see and participate in the birth of a new game.

I can't wait to see what you all think of it.

I never played that game specifically. I have to admit there's a bit of a Settlers of Catan element to it.

The concept, though, definitely came out of my head. It started off as a Civ clone on a hexmap, and then I worked out the whole city economy from there, which is where I think the Settlers influence comes in.

        Emperor of the Fading Suns.
Great concept, interesting story, poorly executed.
<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. If you devirginised them yourself, though, that's another story. If they devirginised each other, then, I hope you had that webcam running.
Play Bumps! No, wait, play Slings!

We've got a regular group playing games, and a lot more new people coming in now. The first layer of bugs have been fixed, and the game is going.

If you were thinking about checking it out, do it. Come on by. It's some great multiplayer action, and new 10-player games are starting every day or two.

Here is the "ad" that I've been using to detail the game:

Fire to the Stars - http://www.firetothestars.com/

Fire to the Stars is a brand new online multiplayer web game. Registration is free and games begin as soon as ten players are ready. Here are the features for the game:

              - Played in a web browser - no plug-ins, no downloads!
              - Turns happen automatically every hour and units follow your commands.
              - Cities produce resources for improvements, units, growth, and research.
              - Random events in cities give bonuses to cities with extra happiness, money, or power.
              - Grow your population and turn them into armies and colonies.
              - Deploy units like Spearmen, Archers, and Musketmen to capture cities.
              - Engage in diplomacy with other real players to make enemies or allies.
              - Each world made of hexes, and generated uniquely for your game.
              - Research hundreds of technologies unlocking new units and improvements.

Right now, the planetary phase of the game is being tested. Then, the galactic phase will be tested. The full game will be 100 players put into the same galaxy, 10 each on 10 worlds.
