  • Shogi

Just discovered this Japanese game that is something like Chess. A very kewl game.

Here is a link to a freeware version that can be played on PC:

shogi, shogi variants, chess, chess variants, board games, Japanese chess

Has some great variant rules and board setups, as well as a run down on how the pieces move and the rules of the game.

Just be ready to learn the Japanese names of the pieces, though :P

Damn, I thought this was going to be a pet name for Shogun: TW.

      Ha! :P

The interesting things with this game are, first, that it is more defensive. If you can not make a good defense, you are not going to do well. And secondly, any pieces you capture can be dropped back into play by the capturer; these 'dropped' pieces can be placed almost ANYWHERE on the board.

I am having a lot of fun with it.

Shogi is an interesting game. The secret lies in how to make good use of these paratroopers.
