  • What MMORPG Should I Start Out With?

    I think I am ready the play one of these things, but was curious which one you guys would recommend as it has been a while since I played anything similar.

    Back in college, 01-02 time frame, I tried Ultima Online for a few months. I am not a big warrior person, I like interacting with the people/world more. In that game I spent hours mining in the mountains, bringing back the ore to my blacksmith shop I built, and then selling my wares to others.

    I killed things when I had to, but it is the day to day stuff I liked.

    Looking at the current leader WoW, it seems all you do is hack **** up in pre made dungeons on a perpetual level quest. Is that in fact the case or is there more to it?

    Is there anything new that is more UOish, or anything crazy out there I might not know about?

    I like City of Heroes myself. (Comic book geek) Though I do play WoW as well. UO does still exist though IIRC.

      Yeah, but even for a 2D game it is graphically too far of a backstep in time for me to enjoy. There is a graphic revamp coming out this year, but still looks crap.

      How did you like WoW? It looks great, but again if it is just a level quest I don't see the point.

        You could try EVE online, there are many ways to play without fighting. 14 day free trial on the website.

            If you drop me (Ebbrock) a message while in-game I could spare 200,000 isk for skill books or something.

                Same for me; I will give you some ISK;
                PM me (via Apolyton) or send me an Eve Mail when you'll be in the game; my name is: cronos qc.

                I cancelled my account last week (I was playing too much for my taste) but I can have access to it, until June 24th.

                  Is EVE all fighting or is there more too it?

                          There are many many happy industrialists and miners who hardly ever fire a shot in anger. One issue is that it is pretty open PvP, so you have to stay in police zones if you don't want to be shot at occasionally (or all the time).

                              yeah but isn't the best stuff outside the police zones? You'll make more money outside.

                              Where's the fun if there is no danger or fighting? If I wanted to mine, I could do that in real life. .
