Some adventure/RPGs and RPGs are coming out - what's the word on these?

Two Worlds looks interesting as an adventure type with lots and lots of space (~25% more than Oblivion apparently) and an enormous amount of quests. In an interview with one of the guys making it he talked about how the quests won't all be generic fetch or kill missions. Not sure if it'll live up to that but it certainly seems like they talk a decent game.

I saw a BioShock video explaining some of the mechanisms - it looks like it could be a decent game but I don't see that much depth in it. Not enough to really think of it as an RPG.

I saw a video of Mass Effect but it was really just "hey, people in space, fighting!" Oh, and there was also some kind of button controlled dialogue system - the different directions would have the kind of response or tone you wanted to convey.

We'll know more about FO3 on Monday but I wanted to include it in this thread.

Any other RPGs or games that people are billing as RPGs that look interesting?

Story from the Two Worlds website:

The world changed when Jimmy, the god of war, was slain in the huge battle long ago. The hordes of Orcs lost their divine leader and were forced to withdraw to the southern wastelands. Now, thousands of years later, the location of Jimmy's tomb is still unknown, well hidden by other gods who did not dare to entrust the secret to mere mortals.

However, now, a fragile peace between the civilized races and the hordes is at stake. When the dwarven mining expedition discovered an ancient temple dedicated to an unnamed deity - all of the world's most powerful factions saw it as a possible clue to the place of Jimmy's burial ground. A silent war has now begun and it will soon ignite the fires that will lead to the holy crusade of the Orcs. However, the real danger lies somewhere else. A powerful force churns silently - weaving a secret plot of fear and destruction. In the end one of the Two Worlds will remain.

The story of "Two Worlds" begins in an age torn by war. The Orcs have advanced to the south bank of the river Gon and are threatening the Kingdom of Cathalon. While this is happening, the hero, a wandering bounty hunter, is searching for some clue as to the whereabouts of his sister, whom he hasn't seen since her settlement was attacked three years ago. He unexpectedly receives vital information from a mysterious stranger - and immediately joins a Dark Brotherhood (or so it seems). Now the time has come for him to try understanding the game's powerful forces - and to learn how to use them! This is the only way the hero can survive - and get the answers to the questions that are burning in his soul – Who is behind this secretive kidnapping? Will he ever see his sister again? Where is the Tomb of Jimmy - and what role does the mysterious, yet helpful stranger have to play?

Will he learn the nature of a shadowy figure that almost killed him in the town?
Will he learn what happened to his friends?
Will he ever meet his sister again?
Finally, what will he do with the power to choose only one from the Two Worlds?
Sounds pretty generic. I swapped 'Jimmy' for 'Aziraal' to make it more interesting.

Yeah, it does. I think they're banking on getting the Oblivion type audience and enticing them with MORE, LARGER!!! They have paid some lip service to the consequences for choices crowd though - different factions will want you to accomplish goals that hinder your standing in other factions and create enemies for you, opening and closing quests, etc. Not sure I believe it but it would be nice.

if it's a fetch quest or kill mission just leave it out, it's not fun.

Of those 4 games mass effect is the one I'm most excited about. Judging from what I read and bioware's track record mass effect is shaping up to be a great game. I'm also excited about too human for the 360 it has an interesting concept.

Mass effect does look good. I hope that they up the danger level though. Dumb-as-mince RPG enemies just don't cut it any more, especially for a game with an actiony combat system.

Not sure about Mass Effect. I've played so much Bioware games that I can't help but have a been-there-done-that feeling whenever I try one of their new games.

OTOH, Bioshock looks sweet. I don't care that it isn't a "deep rpg". Its more of a shooter than anything else, IMO. Look at it as the spiritual sequel to System Shock. Which isn't a bad thing. I think this game will give us one hell of a ride.

i've been playing Etrian Odyssey lately for the DS, its an old-school feeling dungeon crawler where you have a party of up to 5 exploring further down a dungeon. The touch screen is used for mapping the floors. 9 character types (I think) 30 floors, tons of quests and enemies, few save places making the game harder than a lot of new games. monsters not dropping gold or weapons-they drop items that you sell which in turn opens up new purchase options. high replayability due to the different character types/combinations.

Its far closer to the style of rpg that I like, aka no cutscenes like the latter final fantasies, than what I've seen lately on the consoles.

Oddly, the DS is producing/slated more rpgs in the stlye I prefer than the consoles. Etrian Odyssey, FFIIIDS, FFIVDS, DQIX are must buys on release for me, and there are quite a few I need to check out.

The trailer for FO3 is supposed to be out today but Bethsoft is completely crashed. I checked in earlier today and they were setting records for most people online in the forums - previous high was around 2,000 and it was over 3,000 and climbing.

I didn't mention it earlier but Fable 2 is in development. Their fascination and fixation on the dog is disturbing. Apparently you can run away from it, but it will always follow after and eventually find you. Creepy. They also indicated that every structure can be bought and will have quests associated with it. Which means lots of fetch and kill quests I'm sure.

I don't hold out much hope for Fable 2 myself.

Depends what other games you can get for $10 that you haven't played.
