Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Asher, you said no media was playable. None. Nada. Zip.
You just can't stand being wrong, can you.
Resorting to the defense of claiming I'm using semantics, is just so....you.
The reason I said no media was playable was because the topic was of the discussion of music + movies. You then took this out of topic to point out the Wii can play digital camera videos with MJPEG support and play MP3s if you play ExciteTruck.
Thats purely semantics by someone desperate to avoid a practically true statement.
And LOTM: You're incorrect in assuming that because I'm practical, I follow no organizational rules in forums. In fact, thats a rather ridiculous assumption to make...
Nikolai was:
1) Off-topic
2) Ill-informed
3) Posting personal attacks against me
You can defend that all you wish, but practically speaking it's a waste of posts.

I think it is relevant to this discussion to add that the Xbox 360 hard drive sells for $170 for 20 GB. Bearing in mind that 20 GB is worth about $10 in the real world, I'm forced to think Microsoft is way out of line here and the xbox should be docked several points in this debate accordingly.

1. His post was off topic to Other Games. Console wars are, however, on topic. In a discussion of consoles, its natural to discuss something else he was trying to do, that wasnt game related. We OFTEN have such natural topic drift here, and its an accepted part of the Other Games Forum.
2. The proper response to an ill-informed post is to politely inform someone. If I had a dollar for every time someone in poly said something uninformed on something I knew a lot about, Id buy a Wii I sometimes got huffy too, but at least I try not to.
3. He did go overboard with the personal stuff, but if you really want to avoid that you could try to be less rude to him.
At this point I think it would be best to leave the issue of topicality to the mods.

While the Xbox HDD is grossly overpriced, it is not $170...it's $89 for 20GB, $179 for 120GB (in 2.5"/laptop form factor).

I agree, and Nikolai was warned and I got a pat on the back...so that's that.

Is the HDD necessary? I understand it stores game demos and shows, neither of which interest me. I am wondering if it really helps speed up loading times, improves performance, or is required for any games.
It speeds up loading times in some games (eg, Oblivion). It can and will be required for some upcoming games (mostly MMORPGs, but not exclusively).
It makes a LOT of sense to spring for the Xbox with the HDD.

1) Large amount of persistent storage
2) Data streaming/level storage
3) Lots of custom content

If you lived in the realm of practicality, you wouldnt be arguing about whether Nikolai's post was on topic or not - PRACTICALLY speaking, he was taking the discussion in a natural direction - we were discussing consoles, and he brought up a problem relating to something he was trying to do with a console. The PRACTICAL thing to do would be to help him, not jump down his throat for being offtopic.
Now from a lawyerly. talmudic, nitpicking POV you were absolutely correct - he WAS offtopic. But if youre going to be like that with people, you can hardly be surprised that folks are going to get lawyerly and nitpicky with you.
In some exciting news for HD-DVD fans, Scott Browning, one of the most experienced CE retail marketing executives in Australia, has revealed that Microsoft is preparing to launch a new Xbox 360 console featuring a built in HD-DVD drive. The Marketing Director made the announcement whilst commenting on the shock decision (Which left many Sony execs stunned) of JB HiFi dropping their exclusive support for Blu ray and start selling the Toshiba backed HD DVD. Browning believes that with movie powerhouses such as Paramount, Dreamworks and Universal all firmly behind the HD DVD format, support for the medium will increase and that it's now only a matter of time when Microsoft (who are also in the HD-DVD camp), will release the built in HD-DVD 360 console.
" The fact that movie houses like Paramount are behind the HD-DVD format along with the like of DreamWorks is key. I believe that more content providers will get behind the format and that the likes of Microsoft who are big supporters of the HD DVD format will bring out an Xbox with a built in HD DVD player. This is a given."

No, we both were. I contacted rah to let him know that things got a little heated over here, and he was quite clear above.
Anyway, I have no need to take this further. I should not have reacted that strongly, and you should try to answer more politely to other posters, so that makes us even.
As for the topic: I tried the demo of the new Simpsons game the other day, on PS3. Very fun, but it was plagued by alarmingly bad camera management, which made the game frustrating after a while. To turn around was partly because of this hard to do. I'm excited on the game, it was fun. I only hope it'll be improved on the abovementioned problems. If we are lucky, the devs have made good use of the Wii controllers. If they have, perhaps the game can get more easy to control, who knows.

If the price doesn't get too much affected, that's some great news.
