Ooh a new MMO. I'll come back in 3 years and see how they're doing.

One thing's for sure, she's not afraid. I don't know what she plans to do with that katana of hers. Kill what looks like Cthulhu?

My first reaction was: what the world doesn't need right now is another MMO

Then I noticed the intriguing premise. Its Cthulhu, man!

nostromo, I disagree. Currently we only have 1 or 2 good MMO's, the rest fall short of greatness. MMO's need to be great to succeed because of the monthly committments.

And most of us MMO players will need something new after WoW. I have no doubt this will be our saviour. Though there are others coming, Conan and Guild Wars 2 (Is that right? I don't follow GW, but from the screens I saw, it looked good). There is a problem with MMO's, the vast majority of MMO players only have time for 1 MMO at a time, not 2. So they have to pick, and I suspect the one that shines at the time will be the one to succeed, the others may likely struggle to keep their head above water.

Right, Funcom are quite good, remember Longest Journey?

Just had a look at their Conan game to see what stage they're at now, signed up for the beta, watched some video's and read the FAQ.

I have to say, wow, they are really going all out for Conan, I am definitely going to get it. The fact that you can build your own cities amazes me, and the graphics are great, awesome shadows. The battle system has really got me intriqued, I really hope it works out well; as I keep saying over and over, the main problem with MMO's is the battle system, autopilot battling is boring as hell.

                Who is getting it? (October)

I thought that the LOTR game was doing OK. Don't get me wrong. Secret World sure looks intriguing. Its not another Tolkien clone. But don't forget that unfamiliar settings don't sell.

I'm somewhat keeping an eye on the Bioware MMO, even though I don't think I'll ever enjoy playing an MMO. SP RPG's are much, much better, IMO.

They won't be doing adventure games anymore, BTW. They're only doing MMO's from now on.

It's a smart decision. You can encompass many types of games into one MMO.

I don't know. MMO's seem perfectly well suited for Diablo-esque gameplay. Other types of games wouldn't work as well as MMO's. A massively multiplayer adventure game? That would be retarded, IMO. A massively multiplayer version of Call of Duty could be fun. Imagine: the Allies must take the beaches of Normandy and the Germans must prevent it. But its impossible to do, technically.

Anyway, the official reason why they're stopping making Adventure games is piracy.

no, in essense, MMO's such as WoW and Conan have adventure like traits.

Sony was working on a Civ-type game MMO, looked promising, but seems they have cancelled it now.

I can see how Normandy would work, you just have to change the mechanics of the game a bit, an MMO is simply a world where lots of players can play with and against each other. A lot of games can handle that with small changes to the overall gameplay. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the norm.

Fact is, MMO's are not just multiplayer, they are also single player, multiplayer is optional - as is single player.

If only that were true - there are around 10 with 100k+ subscribers, and many more below that but making enough to warrant staying in the marlet.
