  • $600 for this? This is crazy!

I don't get it. Is this fake, you think? Will anyone bite at that price?

I can see, kinda, paying $500 for a 360, or $600 for a PS3. I can see paying $300 for a video card that will enable your PC to play SEVERAL games it couldnt. I can see paying $60 or $70 for a game, though ive never done that. Indeed, Ive never done any of the above.

But $600 for a damned MMORPG character?!?!?!?

You think it's stupid. I think it's stupid. There are quite a lot of people out there who do not think it's stupid. There are people who want to play a game like WoW, but do not have the time to invest grinding their character to max level and collecting all the gear they'd need. Buying it, to them, makes perfect sense.

There are two problems with it. The first is that it encourages people to continue selling the characters. Organizations like raiding guilds become reluctant to hand out loot to characters that might change hands and leave the guild, taking all that stuff with them. The second is it increases the level of incompetence rather drastically. If you have a level 70 rogue in Wow, equipped for high end raiding, and the player has run that character since level 1 and manually collected all the gear it has, there's a pretty good chance the player knows what he's doing. Someone who bought the character yesterday won't know left from right in a raid, probably will have problems in pick up groups, and generally will be lost in situations that require the player to know what to do, right now.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

Worth the money in principle. Done the rep grind, got the equipment, it's pretty jmuch ready made/. Cheaper to buy than getting it powerleveled by some chinese farmer.

Except of course if the buyer has another 70 rogue, but this one is far better equipped, and the buyer doesn't want to spend the time in getting his rogue that good. Then perhaps it would be a good buy. But I honestly can't see why ppl would spend that much money on a char from a class they don't know. They would never be able to max out it's potential.

I Sometimes wonder if I could sell my EVE gold for 600$ plus. I have like 7b and 1b is bought from the gold selling sites for 129$. I could probably break even.

Not to mention they'd be out $600 that they could have spent on a hooker to fill in for all the sex they're not getting for being so goddamned stupid with their money and nerdy.

At first glance it looks crazy, but the if you think of it as buying hours of service it looks pretty cheap. That's a max level character with good PvP gear and rep, so 300 hours + a couple hundred more, give or take. That would be $1.20 an hour.

Personally I think it's a little pointless as part of the MMO experience is earning what you have. But not everyone feels that way and if you don't, it is a steal.

we live in a world where 99% of the population doesnt even own a PC, where millions of children in the worlds richest countries are growing up with only standard def TV, where even hard core gamers cant afford all three latest gen consoles - and yet someone is willing to part with $600 to get someone to game for them? Is that not obscene?

That's actually cheap. Back in my EQ days, I heard of many raid-capable characters selling for $1500+, and people bought them! Hell, I even knew a couple of people in real life who liked to buy a copy of the game, powerlevel up to the cap, then sell off the account. They'd just buy another copy to get a new account and start over.

In EVE you don't even have to play to level up... so there ar epeople who have extra accounts who just sit and "level" and then get sold off (generally for ingame money).

No more obscene than any other luxury based way to spend $600.
