CK was boring after 2 hours of playing. Sometimes starting a new game was fun but never beyond a certain point.

If you don't act offensively, the Muslims always conquer huge parts of Europe.

On the contrary, the Christians had a habit of taking too much land. Which patch did you play?

No idea, I played the Normans (S. Italy) and was strongly limited in my expansion into either direction.

On the contrary, with the Normans you've got quite a few possibilities.

Byzantium is too strong and so is the Papacy in the early game. Plus, expanding into Christian realms costs honour score for claiming those thrones. Then, expansion through inheritance is complicated. Only Sicily, the Balearies and Libya left for conquering. Strong states with strong allies.

Taking Sicily, North Africa to Egypt and what comes your way in Italy makes you more than strong enough to take on Egypt. After that, only the Mongols, high BB and extremely back luck can overtake you.

                  That's what you think.

I don't like the hereditary system either, it's overly simplistic

That's what I know for a fact. As for simplistic system, can you mention a game that is good at that then?

Civ2, good at the heriditary system?

The Civ leaders just use really good anti-wrinkle cream.
