  • Vanguard: Saga of Heroes - the friendly thread

So - let's have a real roll cal, first and foremost. Character names, what servers are you on - what interesting stuff have you been doing, etc. etc.

I am Hargir Bloodaxe - a Thestran Human warrior. I am level 5

Family stuff has prevented me from levelling to more than that (allthough I am a skill 65 diplomat as well - and that takes time). I am not doing crafting so far. The Vanguard concept of crafting hasn't really interested me so far.

I did some crafting in Beta however, and I will most likely start doing it at some point. For now I will contend with levelling my warrior, once my wife gets back from Thailand.

Let's hear some Vanguard stories, guys

Aranarth Elessar- level 12 Qaliathari Ranger of Khal (Qalia), level 4 outfitter, no diplomacy yet. My main character. Enjoying Qalia so far. Usually this guy is a very Tolkienesque Ranger but this one started in the desert because I didn't want all my toons to be from Thestra. has pretty much leveled up to 12 via solo. So far Ranger class in Vanguard is the best Ranger iteration I've played..... (Still waiting for the nerf bat....)

Skirvir Stonehammer-level 11 Dwarf Paladin of Bordinar Cleft (Thestra), level 8 blacksmith, no diplomacy. This is my two night a week character, started before the Ranger but leveling slower because I have a "static group" every tuesday and thursday night. Currently selling harvesting tools and making some nice cash at it.

All toons are on Hillsbury and in "The Old Timers Guild".

Laid back, not too serious, no drama...all about the fun!

      Anyone else playing?

            I have a good machine.

            I like this game.

This game REFUSES to run well on my machine... i'd buy it, but i'd like a minimum of 20 FPS wherver I go, is that too much to ask?

My God, the crafting system in this game is beyond anything I have ever seen.

Very complicated, yet intuitive - and very funny.

As a warrior, I have chosen blacksmithing. To go with that, I am a miner - and then quarrying as a cash cow. Will be interesting to see if I can make a profit out of this, or if it will be like WoW, where it was very hard to make money with any profession.

                The development team is inept.

Is there a free trial at all? I couldn't find any client download links on the SOE station page. Really don't want to spend $50 without trying it first...

Don't know about VG but most MMOs don't do a free trial so close to release Too many people who might buy because of the curiosity factor.

Not to go totally off-topic, well, actually, yes it is...

THe Preds are kicking ass this year, but nobody in town cares. You can walk up to the box office and still buy tix within the first 10 rows at center ice. Sad...

That's because it's unclear why anyone thought a hockey team in the south outside of carolina (sports nuts) or florida (old people) was a good idea ... heck we can't even fill an arena in Chicago.

Wait, is Wirtz a part owner of the Preds too?

Free trials ... I'd do them from day one, but i'm not an evil gaming company, so ...

It's hardly evil to not do a free trial straight away. It's just good sense.

I wasn't suggesting it was evil, simply that it was something an evil gaming company would (not) do.

I believe that you get people hooked in the beginning, when everyone is wanting to try your game, and the number of people you get hooked for months is, for a good and worthwhile game, greater (at least in dollar value) than the number you get to buy the game and then quit. This is why free trials exist for anything, after all; encouraging people to try it out and then getting them hooked.

If it's a lousy game, then what you say is of course true, but one presumes that gaming developers know whether their game is lousy or not ...
