    ... Second Life?

Over the last year I've read a lot about this game. Now it seems that every modern newspaper sends in a journalist a couple of weeks to write a piece about it...

I'm intrigued by the economic aspects of this game and how game world events blend with real life...

I'm thinking about carving out a living in there...

Yes, I guess I could run a search for them, but perhaps some kind soul is up to date?

Besides, a +1 is never wrong...

The only place where I've seen it mentioned is in newspapers... and I've been too lazy to do a search
This space is empty... or is it?

Hm... The game doesn't seem to have been a huge hit among Apolytoners... Too busy slaying orcs?

I have nothing to base this on but I don't to have to know it's a waste of a real gamers' time.

          It sounds ... odd.

Don't most gamers, erm, 'game' to get away from real life?

Point is well taken on the +1 though.

Well, yes, but the sense of wonder of MMORPGs + the fact that good deeds are renumerated (as opposed to in real life ) + the social networking and the often strong ties among clan members -> some scientists believe MMORPGs will have a huge impact on how we live...

For example, this lady featured in BusinessWeek:

She used to be a language teacher. Now she has more than 20 employees running her real (virtual?) estate empire (she has expanded since the article was written)...

What if more language teachers, nurses, post-docs (well, the last category doesn't contribute much to society) decide to make a living in these kinds of games? Who will teach, nurse and waste good research money?

The big companies are moving... Soon you'll see Coke and Pepsi in WoW and Guild Wars...

I registered an account in SL some months ago. Seems nice and I can see how people get sucked into it, but I lost interest within an hour. To each their own, I guess.

                    Definitely a nice thing.

But what´s funny is that one oif the first Newbie questions now seems to be
                    "Where can I make money"

And that many of the newbies that were drawn from the Media hype into SL and are only there to make money have no talents at all
(well of course they could still try to find a job as dancers or security [or escorts, but this still requires talents ])
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

                      1. The title of this thread sucks!

                      2. Second Life is a hive of prostitutes, teledildonicists, geeks without a first life, lamers, and furries (*).

I knew my suspicion about the game was on solid ground.
