  • Games for 2007

I was thinking about this earlier - I suspect that most of my game time in 2007 will be spent on Civ4 (released in 2005, x-pack 2006), Guild Wars (released in 2005, 2 x-packs in 2006) and Burning Crusade (x-pack to WoW released shortly, original game released for Euros in 2005).

I must be getting old and stuck in my ways. New games like Hellgate: London will probably get a look in but I can't name many more I'm looking forward to.

I am looking forward to Bioshock more than anything, and will certainly pick up Stalker and Crysis when they come out. I'm thinking about the Conan MMO, but haven't really been attracted to those types of games since I finally broke the addiction after 5 years of ForEverQuest. The only other one I'll definitely grab is Silent Hunter IV when it comes out. At least there will be no StarForce on this one.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

i probably shouldnt respond, but I will anyway.

My plan is to finish BG2 (released in what, 2002?) and to keep playing EU2 (2001). At some point I will try to finish Monkey Island 4 (199?) Maybe play through HOI (2002?) a couple of times. Go back to AOK (1999)

When I begin to run out of gameplay I will look at buying something. Probably something old, though Im starting to accept the idea of skipping generations in strat games (I might buy Civ4 and skip Civ3, or get Sim City4 and skip SC3000)

Yeah, skipping makes sense for both those. And you might want to skip SC4 as well.

Nothing much to look forward this year so far. Well, there's the next episode of Half-Life 2 (with new cool multicore technology). I may play around with the GalCiv2 expansion. But meh.

What are the year's big titles supposed to be anyway? Spore and Stalker?

Games I'm looking forward to and may purchase.

                - Assassin's Creed. Supposed to be a very interesting adventure/stealth game, Hitman with historical and scifi themes and a very dynamic environment.

                - BioShock. This is acclaimed to be System Shock 2's spiritual successor, so it's an obvious choice. I've seen a gameplay video that was very promising.

                - Command & Conquer 3 looks like it might be good. I know, it's an RTS (like shockingly many on my list), but I'm an old fan of the series. The FMVs will also have Tricia Helfer and Grace Park.

                - Europa Universalis 3 is obvious as a Paradox game and a sequel to a classic. I just hope the pointlessly 3D graphics engine won't be a stumbling block.

                - GTA 4, another sequel, but San Andreas was brilliant, so I'm hopeful.

                - Half-Life 2: Episode 2, because the bastards keep throwing cliffhangers at us and we still don't know WTF G-man is.

                - Portal, because it has a very interesting gameplay mechanic (or as some would say, a gimmick).

                - Silent Hunter IV, but while the lack of StarForce is good, I just don't feel the same atmosphere in the Pacific theatre as I might in the Atlantic. Too much Das Boot maybe.

                - Sins of a Solar Empire could be either a hit or a miss, I'm not too wishful, but it's some sort of 4x meets Homeworld sort of thing from a small developer.

                - Spore, I think we salivated over this one enough already. I just hope it actually comes out.

                - Supreme Commander, another epic RTS with dual screen support, seamless zooming from blades of grss to outer space, massive scale, nukes, and from what I've heard of the beta, fun gameplay. I just don't think I have the rig for this yet.

I will, however, be probably spending an inordinate time on Dwarf Fortress, on which I plan to make a thread soon.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Allthough Spore might be a Sandbox, it is still one I would like to play in

Really? Hell... not that I'm interested in C&C 3, but this sounds quite exciting .
