  • "Crown of Glory" an EU2-like?

GameWatcher is a website that provides news, reviews, and guides for video games. We cover the latest games and provide in-depth analysis of them.

Metacritic aggregates music, game, tv, and movie reviews from the leading critics. Only Metacritic.com uses METASCORES, which let you know at a glance how each item was reviewed.

Crown of Glory - anyone played this? sounds like i could get into it, and i'm always keen to support small devs that try to make strat games.

So whats the verdict if anyones played it?

EDIT: dont know why it didnt link metacritic first time around?? fixed

Could be good, but EU3 is just around the corner. Enough said.

true......still this atleast keeps the 'traditional' 2D view? That might have its appeal.

well i've ordered it - so after xmas i'll be able to give it a go. It looks pretty detailed(tactical battle parts in particular) and i know the graphics are not going to be an issue for me.

Hopefuly it will be a decent game, able to give the EU's a run for their money

My bro has it, and we ususally trade games now and then. I'll ask him if he played it or not.

in anticipation of playing this in just under two days, i thought i would post this link that gives easy access to the games patch. Going through the devs link i gave above made it much harder to find one.

the patch is in the 'downloads' section.

ok i had a go this morning. It scared me. I was looking through the paper manual that came in the games case, its about 15 pages, and it kept making reference to 'you should check in the game manual for this ...' etc.

So then i noticed the pdf manual that gets unpacked when you install the game. 90 pages of detail, the 15 page paper manual takes you through two turns of the game.

This game is a grognard's heaven. It's got the level of detail that made me wait for a less hung-over day to tackle it. I 'wanted' to play EU2 over this as that seems much more straight forward!

So in short, this is a serious war game set in the napoleonic era. Everything from the economy/trade to keeping supply lines open for front line troops to a serious tbs battle mode that can take hours to play one battle is included - and each part full of detail! scary....but quite a draw for me in a strange way.

My first attempt(that i aborted) left me rather overwhelmed with info and detail but a desire to see if it is manageble for an average mortal like myself.

Its got great period art work and fine classical music to set the scene if your into that period of history(circa 1800's). But on a headfull of xmas alchohol and a belly full of food - well i had to wave the white flag for now!

Sounds awesome! I'll have to move it higher on my "Games to Get" list. Thanks for following up, El_Cid.

It came out a few years back, but seems to have been mostly overlooked. I can't comment on if it is really a good game or not, but the reviews i've read have more or less all said its worth playing if you are into this type of game(Victoria/Eu/old style wargames etc).

What i can comment on is that from the looks of it it has a lot going on in it for you to manage. The tbs battles sound very awesome, with weather/supply lines/morale/terrain etc all to contend with, and with hours of gameplay in each one.

I wish i was more into the time period it represents - strat games circa/post industrial revolution have always been hard for for me to get into sadly
