  • I'm tired of the CD!

Why can't they just stop with requiring the CD to be in the drive? When I play a game, I primarily tend to play games that don't require the CD, because I'm too lazy to dig through my collection of CDs to find the right one.

Indeed. It is like publishers want to encourage piracy.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Of course they do, since if they don't meet their quota or whatnot, they can simply claim it was teh evli pirates!!1

No-CD cracks are easy to find. Which is a good thing, because, to avoid being banned, I won't tell you the name of the website that has them for pretty much every game released.

            You need not tell me.
Still, obtaining such things is both illegal and hence very bad and I'm far too lazy.

              No-CD cracks aren't illegal, AFAIK.

Well, my understanding is that the illegality comes from violating the EULA, and the EULA violation comes from the "no reverse-engineering the software" clause, which gets broken when you replace your exe with a modified one.

The legality of No-CD cracks is debatable... most sites, like this one, prefer to stay away from them, as they are of dubious legality. EULAs forbid No CD cracks, but many (most) EULAs would not stand up in court in their entirety.

However, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act pretty much makes No CD cracks, in America, illegal. Whether *that* would stand up in court is another question entirely.

Who gives a damn. No one has or ever will be prosecuted or sued for using a no-cd crack.

                      that's why I use DVD's.

unfortunately they have to be in the drive as well.

Anyway, just go Direct2Drive ... they really do a good job, and a lot of games (ie Civ4, Oblivion, etc.) are available D2D...

I don't get any twinges of guilt about downloading an executable so I can play the game I paid $50 for without the CD in the drive.

There's a fairly trivial way for the RIAA to detect who's sharing music over p2p. OTOH, it's essentially impossible to detect who downloaded no-cd's from, uh, that site.

I don't see any reason why one should not use a no-cd crack if one has already bought the game
I never use the CD/DVD I get when I buy the game (with one exception with a game that didn't need the CD to run), it's much easier to just have the bin/cue file on the HD when you need to install (or reinstall) the game. I don't even know if the games I've bought actually works
