Good thing then that we're in the Other Games forum, where the whole idea is (was?) to discuss other games...

It's quite possible, Dis. I have a friend, who I think is allergic to normal. He's into anything odd, but as soon as it becomes mainstream, he can't stand it anymore. I've seen it happen at least a dozen times. He'll be raving about how good something is nobody every heard of, but it soon becomes popular, and then he hates it.

It's by people who bought into hype.

The game is repetitive and shallow, and the Source engine is a piece of sh*t.

I bought both the Sims and the Sims2. While I didn't get as many hours out of them as I'd hoped, I don't regret the purchas. Unlike games such as Black and White, Star Wars rebellion etc.

Or feeling soothed by the familiar bill-board adverts we see in our everyday lives - it will make the games seem more real?

But seriously in-game adverts will become a part of future gaming - luckily the games i like to play(historic/tbs/strat) will have a hard time incorperating them without losing all credibility. "Oh look that knights tunic is advertsing coke!?"
Coca Cola was invented back in the 19th century. I can think of a flavor event for Victoria 2 that would work. (That may be the only way they can finance Victoria 2) HOI 3 (or whatever) could be filled with brands that are still around.

well by the 19th C most knights had outlived their usefulness(other than mostly decorative) - so i really hope not to see a crusader sporting the fine coke emblem

I will refuse to buy any game with in-game contempory advertising(of the comercial kind being proposed), kinda like i refuse to buy a game with Starforce.

On principle i dont like advertising(i switch channels on tv when its on), and i certainly dont want it in my gaming universes.

Exceptions to the rule would be stuff like the "recycle or die" billboards seen in the elite games, or the amusing "reanimate your pet" type adverts seen in the judge dread game(the 'rebellion' published one). That stuff i can put up with because it takes the pee out of just how banal media/advertising really is......imo.

Still i see this as being a 'next-gen' thing mostly - thats where the extra revenue will be needed to produce all the graphics these games have decided to rely on. Ultimately this shouldn't effect me as a declared next-gen-aphobe.

                              in-game adverts

Star wars rebellion/supremacy owns my souls and its a never ending love/hate loop

nearly so good, then why the hell so cumbersome? it shouldnt be - most of us are used to the 'windows' enviroment of maximising/minimising screens and flicking between different sized windows. Just feels poor in this game
