  • CivCity: Rome?

For someone enjoying Caesar 3 and loving Civ 2, the name of this game is all but intriguing... *drools*

The reviews are bordering on indifference, though...

Has anyone played it? Has there been a recent thread about it here?

To be honest I think that if you really are a fan of both City Builders and Civ then you'll get something out of CivCity Rome. A lot of reviewers probably just aren't huge fans of city builders.

A lot of the negative points are on bugs or missing features, some of which are very workaroundable or not missing - just undocumented. Obviously this results in a poor first impression, but once you learn the required techniques and workarounds the gameplay experience is a lot smoother. (for example to delete roads you can't just click on a road with the delete tool, you need to click and drag - this works superbly well, but until you discover you need to click and drag it seems that deleting roads is severely broken).

The game is generally too easy, but fortunately there are fan created missions that are much harder and more enjoyable for me.

It might pay to wait for a patch.

Waiting for the patch is a good idea, as there are way too many bugs in the game at present state. Deleting roads is painful and impossible on resolution 1280x1024 and higher, as you never really know where the mouse actually points at (trying to remove a road can cost you a few buildings)
I also hate the "move the houses" feature in the game. When a house has reached a certain level, you will have to move it (so it can take up more space), then again later you'll have to move it again, and again. In the later part of the game all you do is to move houses around. Houses that needs to be moved has an arrow on top, making it look really ugly when there are too many of them

I'm not really fond of their "work/pay" system. Each worker gets the same amount of money (ok, there is no money to be exact, at least nothing that matters), which means that you often will end up having a street cleaner or farmer live in the palace. Usually I'm not the type who complains about how unrealistic games are, but this is too much

Also the game is way too easy, each level is exactly the same as the level before. When you start one level, you can get the mission to have x number of houses level 4, then when you have finished your missions, then the mission for the next level is like getting x houses up to level 6... and so on
And after 15-30 minutes into each map, you'll have no more problems with money. You can easily pay your workers as much as the game allows (which just makes them happier, no other effect... and happiness is too easy to come by anyway) and still end up making more money than you could possible spend
This space is empty... or is it?

I was thinking of this and thought of Crusaders Stronghold

I enjoyed that but it suxks on a few levels and then for war you have to say attack with X numbers units

I kinda wished it was like I believe RON?? or maybe empire earth dawn of the modern world, where you could maybe set an hour worth of building your civ then war broke out

But, to each their own, I did enjoy the satisfaction of building a Castle with its support people outside, really to me that was kewl

Maybe need to go back and play it some more soon

I heard a review recently, and the guy said that if your a huge fan of city builders, you will not enjoy CivCity. Better wait for Caesar IV, methinks.

I love city builders and Civ, but still this game didn't really have anything to offer
