  • Jack Thompson vs Adam Sessler

For those interested, here's a debate with Jack Thompson on the to be released game Bully (from the creators of GTA)

Guess which side Jack is on

If Jack is against it, then it might be worth to take a look at, if (or when) it gets a PC release

This space is empty... or is it?

We clearly need a Jack Parody game ... one of those where you get to use every imaginable weapon to desecrate a picture of Jack Thompson ...

Or just a Quake mod with him as an impotent enemy ...

It's pretty laughable that they would poll gamers on whether video games cause violence. That's like asking alcoholics if drinking is bad for you.

Not really. I'm sure many alcoholics know drinking is bad for you, they just do it anyway because they are addicted. Gamers say games don't cause violence because they don't.

I honestly think it'd be more useful to know what causes Jack Thompsonism, and better yet, banning it!
Oh I know, it whymes with weligious wundamentalism and they used to play a game called the Crusades (I hear it was rather violent).

AFAICT, Thompson is mainly an embarrassment to people who have serious concerns about games and violence.

Video Games are violent, and they do exert influence. But when a video game is the principal influence on a kid there is a problem that banning video games will not solve or even begin to address in the slightest.

You mean there is a serious version of his views?

A serious version of the view that specific acts of violence can be traced to specific games? I dont know.

Rather that there are "serious concerns about games and violence" which isnt quite the same thing.

Well if they are so different then you should feel no association with his views, and thus no stigma.

"Not quite the same" and "so different" are, of course, not quite the same

In any case one can be embarrassed because those who lack nuance, cant see that theyre not quite the same.
