It's the fact that, for the first time in a long time, attacking wasn't "safe" ... and there are a lot of fleetless people out there and/or nearly fleetless. It's made the game rather hard to handicap at the moment

I think it is absurd to think attacking is "safe" . It makes it harder to be eliminated sure but I don't think there is much in this game that is "safe".

Attacking is usually safe because in past games it's been somewhat rare for an attacker to lose. This game has included much more in the way of actual combat than the past several games (which is a good thing by the way, regardless of my end result)<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Absurd can be good, Flubber.
It's like last season in the NHL. Oh and I don't find it crazy for attackers to lose when they do WIT OR if they are attacking bigger fleets.
