Wiglaf, Steam has you set up an account with them (no monetary charge). Every game you register is locked to that particular Steam account. As long as you can log on to that Steam account, you can download it to another computer with no problems. If you ever forget the login and cannot recover it, you'll be forced to purchase again all the Steam games you've registered to that account. For the older games it isn't really bad, but for some of the newer ones Steam is used as the copy protection. Half Life 2, for instance, requires a Steam account on the computer, and it won't run if you can't login to the account to which that copy is registered.
I'm not familiar with it, but it sounds to me from reading the Gamespot that the game started out as a mod for the original Half Life. Most likely, Outerland simply took the mod, recreated it in the Source engine, and is now charging a nominal fee for the Source version.Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
