The code key, when written from A-Z:

The notes themselves appear to have been red herrings. It used the same code for all of them. I didn't realize this until I started the third one, so I wrote out the key to make it easier to work through and found that by accident.

The dead shouldn't talk . But I was about dead anyway (though it was the minor spear hint, rather than the main hint, that did me in), so it's OK .

The notes themselves were, in fact, small clues. #1 comes from the wikipedia page for Moaning Myrtle, #2 for Minute Maid, and #3 for Michael Moore...CIVMAN+MM=civman2000.

For the record, I deciphered the code (using Leirosa's deciphered message above and her rather cryptic message about the code making her 100% sure of the killer), but didn't want to call attention to myself if he managed to survive......instead I wanted him to kill Spaced next .

Was there only one killer? If not, who was the other one?
