  • Empire Earth -- my new addiction.

I played Empire Earth and its expansion for the first time last night and I congratulate myself for being able to quit a game, and getting to bed before 1:00 AM.

I borrowed the CDs for the game from a friend because I didn't know if I would like it. Now that I have fallen in love with Empire Earth I plan to buy the sweet-deal package (both titles for $20).

I do have one question though. When I played a random map, single player game last night, I put on the reveal map cheat before starting and I chose the huge-sized map. The question is . . . . . .

what are the stars and space beyond the edge of the map? Are those areas of the world that will become explorable later, in later epochs of the game?

EE is quite mediocre imo. If you like it though it might be worth checking out RoN, which is similar in style, but better.

wow, if quitting a game of Empire Earth deserves congratulations, I should have won something a long time ago...

The problem I have, is that RoN has technology and epochs go by WAY too quickly. That is, IIRC from comments here in this forum about that game in the past.

I like a game with a slower, more epic feel to it.

I do have that one question about Empire Earth that no one has answered yet. And while I'm at it, I got a second question: Is there a way to increase the maximum number of players for a single player game beyond eight?

Ron's tech prices and research rates can be slowed way down, as well as the game speed (relative to RTS game rates). I enjoy playing the game on the slowest speed with slowest and most expensive research rates - gives me a chance to get tactical.

But I was a beta tester for Empire Earth, and RoN is far better IMO.

Well guess what? I changed my mind about Empire Earth after playing it some more. I'm going to return it to my friend and let him know what I think.

Not sure why I was initially excited about the game, but it quickly wore off. Now I'm thinking about caving in, and buying Civilization IV but maybe I can hold out until the price goes down for Civ IV.

                  mmm Civ IV

I suspect prices will go down when the expansion comes out. That's normal, isn't it?

An expansion is coming out? I guess I need to visit the Civilization IV forum again -- been quite some time since I last visited that forum.

Wow, fast u-turn. A good one though I think, and I still think you'd like RoN. I am pretty unbiased since I'm not really a fan.

What about Age of Empires and its expansions? Is that an RTS game, or a turn-based game?

RTS. Good, but a little dated. RoN has more in it.
