For the second, if (A+B+D) outweight C, btw, then C must lose even if C is the leading individual vote getter. That poll option is unfairly skewed toward C otherwise.

I do not expect C in the first poll to garner very many votes, so I wasn't concerned with that one

I'd suggest in the second poll that if (A+B) win 50% of the votes, then B should by default win unless A wins 50% or near 50% by itself; it's highly unlikely for a C/D voter to vote for A over B.

Another possibility, btw, of running polls where there's a clear scalar factor - ie, option A is a greater subset than B which is a greater subset than C etc., but C is entirely contained in B is entirely contained in A - is to say:

A: 3
B: 2
C: 1
Vote your "points" as you will. Total Points/Total Votes, rounded at .5, determines ultimate winner.

5 votes for A, 3 votes for B, 6 votes for C, so 15+6+6=27 divided by 14, is 1.86, rounded up to 2, so B wins.

It has an obvious tendency towards compromise, but that's not necessarily a bad thing

Bull. I would rather see B, C, or D than A and you would rather see A, B, or D than C. What's the difference?

The simplest solution would be to make a run-off between two best placed options, even if one of them won a majority (but not absolute majority).

The problem is some people's compromises are other people's half-measures. The risk when voting for a "pure" option is always that a compromise acceptable to you might lose. I would think that most people take that into account when they vote.

Joncha, it's because of the way you set up the poll. Anyone who's had Sociology 101 knows that the options allowed in a poll often determine the winning choice.

You selected three options that are acceptable to various elements of the default crowd, and one option that is acceptable to the non-default crowd. Thus you split up the default crowd into three groups, while the non-default crowd only has one option.

If the options were:
1. Default OOB
2. No Default OOB
3. No Default OOB or Default Orders
4. No Default Orders, "llt-tff" default oob

This is a VERY different poll, yes?

The point is, if 30% of the voters vote "default OOB and default orders", 30% vote "default OOB, no default orders" and 40% vote "no defaults", then clearly 60% of the players would prefer "default oob". Any outcome of this poll that does not involve a default OOB being permitted is an outcome that's contrary to the majority.
