The old rules didn't really work very well ... barring the occasional jaguar type of fireballer, who essentially NEVER win but have fun losing, it's just a boring buildup until someone decides to fire, and then inevitably the person last targetted wins - if you shoot first, you're going to lose almost inevitably.
However, 5 cities is probably a must.
Either a starting-with-all-specials (which I don't think would work, but it could), or a 5-city, 2-spy-1-bunker game would probably be worth trying to see if they're more fun...<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
