Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Ljube had been successful all conflict long in playing the other would-be overlords off of each other. Early on, he successfully whipped up hysteria over a non-existent Eventine menace. Then, as the very real menace of the Austral Hordes became obvious, he publically downplayed the danger, all the while courting them behind the scenes - to the point of securing a non-aggression pact from them.
The Hordes happily agreed to leave him for last if he would refrain from attacking any of their members until that point. Ljube scrupulously adhered to the letter of the agreement, but violated it in spirit through his cunning defence of the last target left before it would be his turn, his vassal Spaced Cowboy.
With Rubychaser reduced to almost nothing, a clear three-cornered fight was all that remained to determine the next Galactic Overlord. With his production less than half that of either of his oppenents, it was clear that Ljube would have to act immediately if he was to stand a chance.
James, one would assume, would be ready for whatever move Ljube would make. Would Spaced?
Ljube's first move was to ensure that Rubychaser could not pin him in place with a spy. The spy hit a shield instead, which was just as well as far as Ljube was concerned.
The time for guile was (all-but) past. Secure in the knowledge that Spaced's sense of honour would prevent him from attempting a backstab, Ljube determined that his only logical course of action was to go straight for James now, while he still had something approaching fleet-parity.
