Exactly, but while Joncha was on the way home I realized that he would probably take the safe route and build torps.

Not even sure that close in and spread would have helped.

    • Spread would have helped a lot.

      • What if he built all fighters? That is why I couldn't spread. I couldn't close due to his ability to build all lasers.

Since I led with torps last turn I suspected a huge fighter build, manuved versus spread torpedoes....game over.

        Oh, BTW I do conceed.

        • Indeed. The odds were very much in favour of my building all fighters. But that was precisely the reason why I built only a sole fighter frigate.

I played that mind game a few moves forward and I deduced that Spaced would build all fighters and expect that I would build all torpedoes and therefore spread. That's why I didn't spread. I was afraid of Spaced's all fighter build and MFF-XXX, back off, spread out OoB which would destroy my torpedoes if I also spread. I would have suffered total defeat then.

That's what I expected, but I said what the hell. If Spaced wins, I won't be unsatisfied, because Spaced represents all that is pure and decent. To me, his victory is second best only to my own victory.

          • And in my mind you deserved to win, especially with the excellent OOB that owned the Aussies.

Really, I would have exited much sooner without our alliance. I pretty much gave up hope when Skanky and I did the base swap.

            • Well played by Ljube. In terms of manipulation and intrigue he has no equal.

If he built all fighters, your Torpedos would have been screwed anyway.

See my finish last game against joncha. He used torpedos and bunched, and ended up losing entirely because he tried to reduce the margin of defeat in the worst case scenario, instead of trying to win in as many cases as possible.

                • Yes, but I expected lasers.

The main problem was is that he was holding more cards than me.

But you are right, I should have bunched at least.

                  • If you had bunched with the same OoB it would have been even worse. If you had spread you would have won.

I think I came out of that one slightly worse than you.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

                          • IMO you pick a set/combo that works against 2 of 3 possible builds by an unknown, and go with it all the way. If it's "Beat T and L but lose to F", then do it ... spread out, back off, lead with T/F. If it's "Beat F/T, lose to L" then close in, spread out, lead with L. Etc. But don't choose to only beat one

Anyway, I'm curious, spaced. Why not just sit tight one round? Yes, Ljube gets a bit more in the way of BP, but it's not THAT much more, and you can perhaps spy him, if you have a spy; but even if not, it forces him to build units that you can then attack next turn ... ?

Update the GO history post in the compendium, sir. You're two games behind now.
