Indeed. The odds were very much in favour of my building all fighters. But that was precisely the reason why I built only a sole fighter frigate.
I played that mind game a few moves forward and I deduced that Spaced would build all fighters and expect that I would build all torpedoes and therefore spread. That's why I didn't spread. I was afraid of Spaced's all fighter build and MFF-XXX, back off, spread out OoB which would destroy my torpedoes if I also spread. I would have suffered total defeat then.
That's what I expected, but I said what the hell. If Spaced wins, I won't be unsatisfied, because Spaced represents all that is pure and decent. To me, his victory is second best only to my own victory.

If he built all fighters, your Torpedos would have been screwed anyway.
See my finish last game against joncha. He used torpedos and bunched, and ended up losing entirely because he tried to reduce the margin of defeat in the worst case scenario, instead of trying to win in as many cases as possible.

IMO you pick a set/combo that works against 2 of 3 possible builds by an unknown, and go with it all the way. If it's "Beat T and L but lose to F", then do it ... spread out, back off, lead with T/F. If it's "Beat F/T, lose to L" then close in, spread out, lead with L. Etc. But don't choose to only beat one
Anyway, I'm curious, spaced. Why not just sit tight one round? Yes, Ljube gets a bit more in the way of BP, but it's not THAT much more, and you can perhaps spy him, if you have a spy; but even if not, it forces him to build units that you can then attack next turn ... ?
