  • Super Mario Bros 1

I find myself thinking about Mario Bros 1.

And I wanted to know something:

    At the level 1-2:
You have 3 options to complete the level
    :
1- You can finish the level without any tricks and jump on the flag. To go to 1-3.
2- At the end of the level you can go higher than bricks, and walk over the bricks and go directly to 3 tunnels, these tunnels will teleport you into other levels.

3- There was a tricks, at the end of the level, just before taking the pipe to go outside, you had to jump crouched into the wall, when you succeed Mario was able to walk throught the wall and go directly to a sea level. I think the level was named: -1.1 (But i'm not sure).

Did any of you succeed to make the options 3. And if yes, do you were able to complete this level?

Have you ever seen the video of the guy beating Mario Bros 1 in 10 minutes? He did it using an emulator (it is too perfect) but it was still cool.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I seem to recall you could jump over the flag in some worlds, or jump over the hole in the floor from where you would warp to a different world. But there wasn't any actuall level there, just a loop, you might say, you could run, untill time ran out.

It's been a while but though I remember the warps to all the levels I don't recall a -1.1.

It's an endless water level. You reach it from 1-2, as I recall.

                Minus world! Loved it!

I didn't have SMB, my parents got the pack that came with a strategy book instead (which was actually kinda cool back in those pre-internet days). But my friend had it.

We spent HOURS trying to work out how to get into minus world. It was something like take a running jump, hit the top brick with the back of Mario's head and then hop at just the right moment.

We got so excited the first time that it worked that we jumped up without dropping the controller first. Which meant the whole system got pulled away from the wall. Which meant that the power cord came unplugged. Which meant our cheers quickly turned into curses. Which meant that my friend's mother was none-too-pleased with our language. Which meant that she called my mom. Which meant we both were forbidden from even touching the NES for a week...

Snap I've never heard about this. I'm going to be doing some serious searching now.

Btw JM, I heard that the guy who beat it in 10 minutes just did it normally and then sped up the recording.

The guy who did it in 10 minutes was playing SMB3. Also, he didn't speed up the recording, he just played it frame-by-frame on an emulator many, many times, to get it perfect.

Well either way, he wasn't a super 1337 gamer with skills honed by hours of thumb blistering practice, he's a lying cheating scoundrel. In short, a perfect politician.

                            Thanks!

Minus world was strange, and it was never ending!
Succeeding to go to minus world was after a very technical tricks; but really easy, as soon as you succeed to made it 4-5 times in a row.

I never know if it was a bug; a real level; a joke by the level designer... dont know!

Anyway... ha happy birthday Grandpa Troll!
