Why should Take 2 / Bethesda be responsible for the content when the ESRB failed to review the contents properly. Shouldn't it be ESRB's fault for improperly putting Teen rating on Mature games and so forth?

The art was in the game when released but can only be seen with a third party mod. So it isn't just some retexturing mod. ESRB believes that makes a difference. The Brittish equivalent does not.

Silver speaks the truth. They reconsidered the rating based on more gore than they thought there was? What, were they drinking the first time they reviewed it? It's total BS. It's only thrown in there, so it doesn't seem like its just based on sex... which it is, which is what the ESRB is getting hammered over because they are a bunch of prudes.

As to the others, I'm not a modder and have never worked with 3DS Max or any such program, so I can't say for certain. But I went out and downloaded that nude mod earlier to see what was in it. It adds a new folder called TEXTURES under the DATA directory. Under that is a CHARACTERS folder, and in that are three folders: IMPERIAL, ORC, and DARKELF. In each are four new texture files: footfemale.dds, handfemale.dds, legfemale.dds and upperbodyfemale.dds. To me, this doesn't sound like something that was in the game already, because those files don't exist in my game directory. They are completely from outside, so how can you base the game rating on it? Anyone ever played T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age? That's a 5 year long mod, basically a complete sequel to Thief 2 (it came out 6 months, maybe a year back). There's a mission there that takes place in a brothel. There's full nudity in that mission, though it's 6 year old graphics used in it. Are they going to go back and rerate Thief 2?!?!? If someone is interested enough, almost every game can have textures replaced to show nudity. Is there a nude Bastila mod for KOTOR? It wouldn't suprise me. Shouldn't that be rerated?

The files were extracted from the game though. They were just put in the right places with a mod to make it work. The textures can be gotten from the game CD.

Does oblivion send client created models between clients? That sounds fairly retarded if it does.

Does it instead demand that everyone have the same models and validate them? In that case there is not a whole lot that can be done about this.

Or is there no validation?

They weren't client created. Bethesda created the nude models and they were present in the CD.

Sheesh. Worse yet, I can't understand why games with violence easily get a T rating, but a game that has any nudity whatsoever immediately gets M.

In this country showing kids violence is more acceptable than nudity. Thats just the way it is. Different values.

I don't buy all the BS about either "damaging children", but even that aside,

Then go ahead and buy the games for your kids. The reason we have a rating system is to assist parents, at least those who want to have some control over what their kids are exposed to. I wont get into the details of damage from junk culture, I will just say that I think parents have the right to know.

are they trying to argue that seeing a breast is more damaging to children than killing virtual people?

Id be happy with a system that was tougher on violence than on nudity.

Id be happy with a system that gave better info to parents than one letter (the TV rating system explains if the rating is for violence, sex, or what - the movie system doesnt, but our local paper gives explanations with its capsule reviews)
