  • Jade Empire and other Xbox games

Anybody played Jade Empire? Is it any good? I'm a huge fan of Baldur's Gate and Planescape, and it seems to be by the same folks.

Also, since my kid seems bored by the Xbox she begged fro a couple of years ago -- what are good Xbox games that aren't (1) sport/fighting games; (2) FPS; or (3) Morrowind? If she's giving up teh Xbox, its mine, but I tend to like Civ, Sim games, Tycoon games, and RPGs, which do not see to be the Xbox's long suits. Ideas? Thanks.

I enjoyed it . It's not as good as BGII or Planescape, but a fun story and some pretty good 'actiony' combat.

The Grand Theft Auto 3 series.

I got a bit bored with Jade Empire, but if you can find it cheap, it's not bad. Defintely not a Planescape though.

      My fav xbox games:
Links 2003 - kicks butt over Tiger
Crimson Sky - very cool flight game (RPG-lite)
Mercenaries - you get missions, but can do them however you like (fav tactic, slap some C4 onto the back of a guy, then run into the middle of a camp, when he follows you in - detonate and watch em all die)

Forgot to ask: any replay value?

Some. Jade Empire is similar to the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic titles.

You can chose different powers to use, chose to act either good or evil - there is some variation on play but not a whole lot.

I bought Jade Empire used from EB Games, it was worth it. If you have never played the KOTOR games I would reccomend the first one. If you hated the KOTOR games you probably wouldn't like Jade Empire much - the games are similar in play and probably even use the same engine.

Not particularly... unless you want to try a character with that has different fighting skills (I, frankly, didn't care).

Sounds like if I see it cheap, I'll pick it up. Same for KOTOR. Thanks, guys!

KOTOR is a must-buy. Ending was a bit sappy, but very "Star Wars". Best way I could describe KOTOR is it's an interactive Star Wars movie.

Yes, KoTOR's ending was good. KoTOR II's ending was not so much...

Yes but the script and voice acting are better then the last three Starwars films released.

KOTOR 1 & 2 are great. KOTOR 2 was helped by being a bit better put together in some parts, but KOTOR 1 had the better story and gameplay.

Jade Empire is really addicting, but playing the gmae makes it obvious that they rushed through production. On the map screen there are only two towns to choose from.

Still though I reccomend at least a very extended rental on Jade Empire. Extremely fun, just rushed insome parts so it is a bit lacking.
