  • eVGA is a good one to get, if for no other reason than their lifetime warranty policy.

    • Nice! Didn't know that.

      • OK I'm sold. I came here wondering whether to get a Radeon X800 or a GeForce 6800 as recommended for Oblivian. I guess I'll go for the GeForce. No one here seems to have any problems with them.

        • I just downloaded some nice distance mods (making the game look much better in the far distances), and people haven't noticed much, if any, fps decline. Though I noticed some drops myself... took the textures away and still had low framerates... maybe its the area I was in, but I'm thinking of dropping the res from 1280*1024 to 1024*768 and seeing if I can avoid the 20 fps I sometimes get in the woods.

          • Asustek makes a nice x1600pro. I know, because I have one.

Runs swell with Fear, no problems so far. Could use a few more FPS, though... But I run the game in 1280x1024 (LCD), so I can't complain. Haven't tried to overclock yet. Plan on trying with atitool and omega drivers.

Haven't tried Oblivion, and propably will not. Silent Storm makes it choke, though, but only if I enable treetops.

One nice thing on the X1-series is the Avivo. Makes my porn look so much more vivid.

              • Well, I'd ideally like to see more .

Though it seems to be only through some areas of woods, so I'll live with it .

                  • I really find it hard to play it on my PC (Athlon 64 3200+, 2GB RAM, eVGA GeForce 7800 GS (505MHz core/1.45GHz memory). It looks comparatively bad without HDR, and it looks comparastively bad without AA, so I can't win. I'm also getting motion sick from playing even 20 minutes on the PC, which isn't the case for the Xbox 360 version -- I can't pin it on why, it might be the inconsistent framerate though.

                    • May I have your video card then ?

I don't though think that looking bad detracts too much from the gameplay. Oblivion looks seriously bad for me (in most places worse than Morrowind, after careful consideration), but that doesn't prevent me at all from enjoying the game .

                      • After Morrowind and now Oblivion, sometimes I wonder if Bethesda owns stock in nVidia and ATI .

                        • They quite probably own some stock in nVidia, actually. They're longtime partners, too...
