          www.ogame.org is a free MMOG but it isn`t role-playing.

I have been adicted since October

Ditto Sparrow only addicted later. However the game does require a significant time commitment , although hopefully very shortly the longer established players should be in position to accelerate the fortunes of new people who join the Apolyton team.

Discussion about Ogame on 'poly here.

There are quite a number of full threads about the game as people played it and learned strategies and tips.

And of course we have learned more since.

Sorry, didn't see the free part.

Free MMOs suck. IMO your best bet is GW, which isn't a MMO, but is great, and best of all, free.

Dransik was fun, but then they moved out of beta and required money.

Ogame was fun, but the time commitment required just grew and grew.

Eve is fun, and progress is made even when you are not online. Provided you can change skills, you aren't penalised for having a life, unlike Ogame. I'm playing the free 14-day trial, but plan on registering after. Who knows, perhaps I can start selling ingame money for real money sometime!

Yeah, the skills system is interesting. Of course it also means you need a few months to get the core skills no matter how much you play, so it's a double edged sword.

Plus, it's quite boring, though many like its openendedness and open PvP.

You start with enough skills to fly a ship and kill things, and level 1 skills take all of 15 minutes to train, generally. Its only specialising or getting to higher-teir technology that takes a long time.

It hasn't held my attention longer than GW yet, but I expect it will.

Yeah, which you will need, to get the ore in the lucrative spots.

You'll also need a guild before long (I forget what they call them in Eve. I've played it quite a lot at my mate's house. Though I don't like it that much, I do respect it as it offers something different from the mainstream MMOs.

Corporations. There are quite a few CGers who have formed a corp, which I will likely join.
