  • X Wing vs TIE Fighter?

I got this game to run on my cranky old Win2k desktop (with the help of a line of code in the .exe file) and it kicks arse!

I'm looking for somebody to multiplay against, and maybe to work on a few custom missions with. (I have a couple of editors that can create custom missions, but I haven't started to use it yet.)

Is there still any interest in this old gem of a game? One thing I'm thinking about doing is recreating faithfully all the levels and missions from TIE Fighter that I can (excepting the ones that include Defenders and Missile Gunboats, naturally).

I've just finished all the single player missions in the add-on, Balance of Power, and I'm seriously thinking about branching out into making my own scenarios. Ah, sweet distraction...

I have X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, but my serial port has seemed to disappear making play impossible.

I would if I had a computer that could even hook up to my old joystick.

I have an MS Sidewinder that I got around the time of WCProphecy and Decent Freespace....and a laptop. The laptop relies pretty much on USB. Thus I'm outta luck.

Yes, around 2003 when I reinstalled this game, I learned that most flight yokes these days were USB. The funny thing is I have a Win95 machine in my other room, which I use to play old games. I am trying to find a COM 1 flight yoke just in case my soon-to-arrive copy of TIE Fighter can't run in Win2k with a USB flight yoke.

If you manage to get a working flight yoke going, then hit me up for some multiplayer action! I've taken a general look around the internet and it looks like there is no more XvT forums still up. So if we get enough interest, Apolyton will basically be it as far as XvT is concerned.

Most USB joysticks won't set you back more than $15 or $30, although it is hard to find them stocked in shops. I found mine stocked but the shop told me most of this trade is done online, where they're much more accessible.

                I will look for one.

Never played too much XvT. It was pretty bad on the early patches and I just gave up. Decent Freespace is where I really shined. I was the very first player ever to make General in their multiplayer arena.

XW vs. TIE was some of the first PC games I ever played (Started with Xwing, and just kept up with the series until Rebel Alliance).

I don't have the games anymore however. But they are classic space combat!

                    joystick.

That word cracks me up. I never thought much of it as a kid. Only as I turned into an adult and my mind grew dirtier did that word bother me. I prefer gamepad or controller.

Okay, does anybody know how to play this game multiplayer over the Internet? I have found another website that features MP gaming, but it's a hard core fan site that requires you to pass a written test and everything to join. I'm just interested in a pick-up mp game.

remind me not to join hard core fan sites. I'll stick to poly.

I'm guessing you have to manually enter in an IP that you want to connect to, of someone that is already hosting a game.

Okay, that can work... How do I find out my own IP address? I want to give it to a few people who have made their MP intentions known, and then to space flight sim MP until the cows come home.
