  • Raiding the dying bargain bins - Roller Coaster Tycoon

Wandered into one of the local EB Games stores the other day. Figured if they still had used PC games, theyd be eager to get rid of them. Couldnt find the section at first, it was tucked away, but the "sales associate" pointed it out.

Still a bunch of games, though getting skimpier. Only a few I was at all interested in.

They had Half-Life which has been recommended to me here - with all xpacks, for $17. I was looking for smaller purchase this time (i will get just HL to check it out, not sure i will want the xpacks) Found Roller Coaster Tycoon, which Id been thinking about, at $5. Thought that was a tad high for such an old game, and figured nothing to lose by bargaining, so I asked if they would accept half that. Well they suddenly discovered they had some sale on, which applied to RCT among others, and said $3. Which I accepted. So now Ive got RCT in my collection, though no time to play it right now (Im not quite ready to turn aside from EU2, and never finished Starcraft)

It gets old pretty quick, but I did spend a few weeks playing it with my daughter. We had a lot of fun. Especially when we had to make changes after kids died on the a few of the rides.

my favourite ride was that huge pipe thing with the long track...on a big map,if you make it a mile long the people shoot up off the end up and up and hit the map 'ceiling' and explode

game was fun designing nutcase rides, but got old fast. :/

Nice to see a customer service focus.

You had to make sure to assign enough workers to the nasty rides to clean up all the puke.

I had so much fun with RCT way back when. The scenarios were fun, but even better was getting a blank map and unlimited funds
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

thats what I was thinking. POTM is uninterested in war, but LOVES roller coasters (which i no longer care to ride) I thought we could have some fun with this together.

and at $3 US, its cool even if I only play it a little.

It was a good bonding experience for us, since I hate sims and she hates civ. even though this was closer to sims the civ.

I really loved this game a few years ago, had a great time playing it with my then fiance, now wife. we have 3, but haven't played much, it ran poorly on our old pcs, haven't tried since we purchased a new one.

My kids love this game, and still play it. We have RCT1, 2, and 3, but they mostly play RCT2. It's interesting to see their contrasting play styles: my daughter (12) likes to play mommy, keeping people happy & fed; my son (10) likes to build huge rollercoasters (although usually everyone is too scared to ride them).

I love that game, spent long time creating awsome rides... just to discover my rides was marked "too dangerous" by the peeps in the game

RCT3 is an ok sequel, though a bit too cartoony for my liking... but it still gives some awsome powers to create awsome rides... too bad it requires a hell of a computer to run smoothly when riding the rides
They released some very boring xpacks to it though
This space is empty... or is it?

It was a pack with all the Xpacks, of which there are several, I gather. Thats why i didnt buy it - id like to just play the original first, and see if i like it.

well we fired this up this weekend. POTM had a friend over, and the three of us started it together. The friend has one of those eeevil consoles, and had played a console knockoff of RCT, and thought she could just dive in - instead of starting on the easy park, the forest one, she opened the lake park, which she and POTM thought would allow them to build an overwater coaster. Well they never managed to get the coaster to work, and ran out of money. It was funny when they demolished a walkway next to a slope next to the lake, and some of the guests fell down the slope and drowned

I tried it again in the easy park, using only pre-designed rides, and playing it first as just a management sim. It was still fun, and one of the best sim type games ive ever played.
