  • Getting an old console

Yes that's right. I'm goign to buy a console but it's going to be one from the generation that we're just now leaving. An Xbox or a Playstation 2. The prices of the console and the games have really dropped and I think it's time for me to spend some money.

So what console and what games should I get?
I saw Halo 2 for about ten dollars and I heard that was a big hit when the Xbox launched so maybe that. But hand me some advice in my bargain hunt.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

if it were time for me to spend some money, I wouldn't spend it on an old console

buy xbox or ps2. both of them have good library of games, but ps2 is much broad IMO.

it really depends on your preference though. you could enjoy GC just as much if u liked toward Mario-Link games.

Me and most of my mates would kill for a Megadrive that still worked.

Well I like fighting games and sports games on the console. I think they are much better on a console than on the PC, strategy games and shooters are best on the computer.

If you like racing/sports/fps get an xbox. If you like a wider choice of games get a PS2. I have an xbox, and only play a couple of titles on it regularily - I had to get a japanese console to get access to more interesting games(i got the cube cause it was very cheap - like me ).

With the current mess that this latest next gen is enjoying, and £50-£60 games to boot, i think an previous generation console is actually the better choice value for money wise. How many movie tie-ins in photo-realism do you really want to play?

              ur right about that.

then xbox or PS2 would do. Xbox would be better for sports due to the xbox live capability. PS2 has online ability... that no one uses, so although on paper it should be same, it really isnt.

fighting game is defintely PS2. Although Xbox has been good with re-releasing some old classic fighters and giving some great xbox live support with couple of fighting games.

Since u are a PC gamer, transition to Xbox will be better IMO. But PS2 isnt a bad choice for you either.

If youre really "footie mad" you should get Pro Evo 5 on XBox and subscribe to Live.

The slowdown on PS2 for Pro Evo 5 (and many other perfectly fine games on XBox) is pretty annoying.

How much will it cost to post to Leeds?

Thought you were joking as you can emulate it for free on any console or PC, got all mine on XBox.

Besides, its kind of pointless selling these things for cash value now, worth more in sentimental value, plus im too lazy.

Im sure you could grab one off ebay as cheap if you cant emulate it on TV.

                      I'd probably get an X-Box.

We don't want an emulator (can't stand Rod Hull), because the cartridges we still own are in decent condition (despite being er, heavily used ). Have to try eBray then.

I may be able to sell you the one that's been collecting dust in my cupboard. Let me check with the other people involved, and I'll get back to you after the weekend.

Since it's never used, £5+p&p seems reasonable too.

You could probably pick up an XBox for about £60 now, and you dont have to worry about things failing a year down the line, like the cheap lasers on the PS2.

but you'll probably never get to play games like Katamari on xbox(for example) http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/k...y2/review.html

Which is the xbox's greatest flaw imho, still the last generation of consoles are getting cheaper all the time so you always have the option of picking up a second one like the PS2 or GC if you need more interesting and inventive games in your catalogue?
