One other thing that can be dangerous is fire enhanced bosses. This is a bug that when they die often kill any character in range.
So a barb can really take a hit. If the ancient ones come up with fire enhanced and you are a barb, you are probably toast.
I hear that was fix in 1.11. If you are using minions or spell to kill it, then you can stay out of the range. I use to have my barb beat the boss down to near dead and then leap away and let the merc take the finally blows.
The problem was that you some times failed to botice it was fire enhanced and then paid the price if it was a strong enough spell to kill you.
